A good friend of mine had these lanters at her wedding, and they needed to get a permit from the town their venue was in. It was touch and go for the few weeks leading up to it, as things were dry and they weren’t sure if they would get permission. All worked out in the end.

Well, depending on your state can depend on the laws.

In my home state (maine) it’s illegal to do the lanturns because we’re so prone to forest fires

And when I suggested releasing 1 laturn on the ocean, which is allowed, my older sister gave me a big enviormental lecture so watch out for family members like that.

I haven’t looked up my new state, but we’re having an indoor reception now in a town so I don’t think i’d want to launch any lanturns and accidenlty light someone’s house on fire.

mwd123 :  Okay well if it’s a regular event then you are in the clear. Calling the fire marshall is just nice to give him a heads up. Just like they probably get heads up for those events before they are even announced.

What month is your wedding going to be in? We wanted to do this but our town normally has a fire ban in August (due to dry weather) so we probably won’t be able to. So that’s something to think about! But yeah i’d probably call the fire marshall just to be sure that it’s okay!
