I got skyla almost 2 months ago and it was horribly painful for me too! I almost threw up after. I will say I have had no spotting inbetween and got my “period” at my normal time but it was spotting for like 1 day so I am very happy so far.

I’ve had the skyla for a little over a year now and I totally recommend it to everyone. Insertion sucks. I’ve had a little spotting here and there (after the first couple months of light spotting after insertion), but I haven’t had a period since I got it, which is fine by me!

I got my skyla 3 weeks ago.  She had to spend about 20 minutes dilating my cervix and sounding my uterus to place it. I asked for breaks once or twice, but that was only about 30 seconds total. Everyone else’s placement seems to have been much faster! I almost passed out when I sat up – even though I rested laying flat for a few minutes.  I was crampy and exhausted afterward, but overall it was fine. I had some spotting after insertion and have had some spotting after sex, but overall it’s been great for me.  My partner does complain that he can feel the strings sometimes and he did get poked by the end of it one time.  Anyone else have issues?

Whirlwind03:  mine could too when I first got it inserted. After a few months they soften (gross, but true) so they aren’t pokey. They also kind of hide a little bit around your cervix so they’re not just hanging around.

Whirlwind03:  My partner said he felt it poke him once and it hurt him for a bit but that was a different position than we normally do, lol. Otherwise no issues. Also spotting after sex but not really bleeding during just when I wipe after.

Thanks.  He’s really annoyed by the IUD between being told no sex/no orgasms for a week after it was placed (and of course this happened at a busy time when I didn’t see him for a few days before or after) and the strings poking him. I’m hoping his annoyance will wear off soon, because it’s fantastic for me so no matter what he thinks, it’s staying.

dport66:  I just do not understand why they can’t provide more substantial pain medicine during this procedure and for afterward.

Thank you for sharing, ladies! I’m actually planning on a Skyla IUD soon because I haven’t been on hormonal BC before and hate the idea of pills. I have no doubt that the pain will suck, but it will be worth it for low-maintenance, low-hormone BC for three years.

Just an update. SO has stopped complaining about the strings and he says he just feels them sometimes, they dont’ bother him anymore.
