Ok so the month I got knocked up I worked hundred hour weeks plus took sleeping tablets (Restavit, which is pregnancy-safe just in case)  to sleep around my crazy shift work hours on multiple occasions, since I didn’t actually expect to get pregnant in the middle of it all. I’m now 16 weeks along and baby is perfect. You need your sleep – chronic deprivation is going to affect your chances of conceiving far more than taking an occasional sedative. Talk to your doctor about the safest option for (potential) pregnancy, and get yourself a decent nights rest!! 

Also try things like eliminating caffeine, getting regular exercise, going to bed at a reasonable hour to get your sleep patterns regulated.

You can take unisom while pregnant so I would assume that’s safe.

Follow proper sleep hygiene habits. Stop checking the time. No caffeine in the afternoon. No exercise at least 4hours before bed. Nothing else goes on in your bed but sleep and intimacy. Keep the room cool and dark. No phones. No tv. Keep a regular sleep and wake time. If you have been in bed for more than about half an hour, get out of bed and do something quiet until you feel sleepy. If it persists talk to your doctor.

I always (used to; pre-baby) wake up around 0200 once so that is when I took my temp as it was after my longest stretch of sleep. I temped vaginally. I had extremely accurate charts doing this.

mama2bee71 :  definitely cut back on the caffeine but also do things like taking a bath/shower at night to relax and cut out the screens (phones, tablets, and tv) and bright lights 30 minutes before you want to sleep. The light from your devices tricks your brain into thinking it’s time to stay awake – I noticed a huge improvement in my sleep quality when I shut down half an hour before bed.

Does needing to temp stress you?  I have decided to cut back to only temping from end of AF to 3-4 days after ovulation so I can then get some sleep and relax.
