AHHHH! I just want to scream right now.
We’ve just had a winter storm in the south, and everything has been shut down for 2 days….going on 3. Including my college. Well, the first official day of classes was supposed to be Monday. However, my first day of class is supposed to be tomorrow.
On our school’s website people are freaking out and asking if the college will add on days at the end of the semester so that info will not be so crammed in. This would be okay any other semester….
I’m getting married May 14th. The last final is supposed to be May 11th. THEY CANNOT ADD ANYMORE DAYS!!!
I know I have no official word yet as to how the college will handle this situation, but these students are really freaking me out!! I’ve emailed the level leader of my nursing program, and I hope to hear from her tomorrow. It might be a little premature to freak, but this is really getting to me.
please calm me down, thanks! 🙂

Can you talk to a counselor and find out if they can let you take your finals early since you are getting married. Or maybe give you an extension of some sorts. I’m sure they will work with you especially since your wedding isn’t really something that just popped up.

I’m sure it will be fine. Even if they add on days, maybe you can work it out with your professors to do your finals a week ahead of time due to the circumstances. No one likes to stand in the way of a wedding. Also, a lot of schools build in snow days into the end of the school year to begin with, so these might already be included in the May 11th time frame. Don’t worry, everything will work out.

Um, I’m in the same boat (we’re date twins!). Luckily, classes don’t start until tomorrrow, so we haven’t missed any days yet, but I didn’t even think what I’d do if we had to extend. Here’s to hoping we don’t have to! I’m sure if you talk with your professors, they willl understand and allow you to take your exams early. Just let them know up front (like ASAP) that this might be the case.

Usually colleges don’t add on dates. I live in the midwest where schools hardly ever shut down, but when they do they just adjust when they are teaching things. You might get some extra reading the first week. No big deal really, it will be ok.

I’ve never heard of added days. Professors will probably just adjust syllabi.

It will be okay!! You never know, if it’s only 2-3 days of classes, they may not add any more days. And if they do maybe you can talk w/ your teachers and explain your wedding and see if you can do the finals early.
Don’t stress!!! I’m sure you already have enough. Good luck 🙂

Unless you go to a tiny private school, most universities WILL NOT change their dates. Graduation means more to them. So essentially, professors cram in more work. Not a huge deal.

Thanks everyone! I’ll probably hear something from my professor tomorrow. Nursing school is a tad bit like a boot camp…it makes you pretty paranoid if you have to miss any days. They’re just so funny about stuff sometimes.

I think its unlikely that they will add on days. I did my undergrad at a university located on the top of a (small) mountain. Every year we missed multiple days due to snow. While ‘adding days’ was often feared amongst students (and discussed), it never actually happened. Our semester wasn’t any longer than other schools either – so it wasn’t like they ‘built in’ more days or anything. Don’t worry too much about it – i think its SUPER unlikely!

Are they even allowed to add on dates? I don’t think so. Cause stuff like graduation HAS TO HAPPEN. What they can do is take vacation days away to make up for lost time. i.e. easter break, etc.

I’ve always always always been allowed to take my finals early. I think every semester I’ve taken some final early for some reason. Usually work-related. Professors are people too, I’m sure they’ll understand if you need to take your finals early. 🙂

I’m a college professor in the midwest…we have at least one snow day a year. They won’t add on extra days. Calm down!! Its not like elementary or high school where you have to go a certain number of days each year/semester. With so many people working other jobs, with kids, families, etc. there is no way colleges and universities could add on extra days!!!

They closed my college down for snow a few years ago, they didn’t add days on but it was more like self study… the information on the syllabus wasn’t covered in class but was on the tests.

Most professors will not add on dates. They don’t want to be there any longer themselves. My one professor would plan vacations before the semester was even over so we would finish her class a week earlier. So, honestly, I really do not believe that you have anything to worry about.
