I slipped on the ice while I was out walking yesterday. I fell mostly on my behind and my arm. I thought I felt some cramping, but I think it was just gas. My behind and elbow are still sore today, but I haven’t had any cramping today. I’m 16 week pregnant. Should I go to see the doctor? My next appointment is a week from today.

@louisianablue: I wouldn’t worry about it. Actually, that’s a total lie- I WOULD worry about it a little bit (I’m 17 weeks pregnant), but I’m sure you are fine and so is your baby! It is so well-protected by amniotic fluid, it probably just got bounced a tiny bit 🙂 I would mention your concern at your next appointment, but seriously, I’m sure everything is fine, especially with no spotting or pain.

@MrsAKSkier: Thanks. It is hard not to worry, because I haven’t really felt the baby move yet. It probably is fine though.

I would call. Not because I think anything is wrong, but because it will give you piece of mind. I’m sure everything is fine and they will probably tell you to take it easy and call back if you have cramping with spotting or leaking fluid. However, I would still call to be safe. My midwife scolds me when I bring up something at an appointment from a week ago. She says to always call right away, no mater what.

You’re most likely juuuuust fine! But if you’re concerned, there’s no harm in calling your OB’s office for some peace of mind.
I fell down the stairs at 6 weeks pregnant (slid straight down on my butt, thankfully!) and freaked out. I called the OB’s office and the nurse I spoke to was absolutely understanding of my concern. Just like a PP said, the nurse told me the baby was so well protected in there, there was nothing to worry about. My butt was bruised for a while, but that’s about it. I’m now 36w along, and knock on wood, so far as good. I’m of course TERRIFIED to slip and fall on ice at this point! I feel like I walk around outside like a 90yo man! haha

I agree with PP. I totally get why you’re worried, I would be too (I haven’t slipped and I’m worried – I’ll be 16 weeks tomorrow). But baby is WELL cushioned in there and if you haven’t had cramps or bleeding, I’m sure it’s fine.
If it will make you feel better, call your doctor. They will reassure you or ask you to come in and check things.

You’re probably fine, especially if you’re not bleeding or having cramping (severe, or that doesn’t go away) and since you didn’t take a fall/impact directly to your lower abdomen. There is plenty of water surrounding the baby that protects it. You can always call if you’re concerned.

I fell on my knees and face around 22 weeks. I called just for reassurance. All was fine.

@louisianablue: Ouch. Sorry you fell! You are most likely fine, but I would call the doc just to make sure. I fell in January (I think), and because I didn’t hit my belly, my doc just said to watch, and if I had any extra fluid leakage or blood to come in immediately. I had fallen very slowly onto my butt, and I didn’t have a problem, but I’m glad I asked her anyway.

I slipped on the stairs Saturday. My feet went right out from under me and I slid down the rest of the way in my back. I have some scrapes but no cramping or bleeeding so I havent even called my doctor yet. I have my 42 week checkup tomorrow so I will let her know but I’m not worried. She has a lot of padding to keep her safe 🙂

I bet you’re fine, but any OB office worth its salt won’t make you feel like any problem or concern is insignificant.

If there was no spotting, then don’t worry abt it. Baby is well protected as far as I know. If I were you, I would not seek medical help immediately without having solid reason such as spotting, cramping, unusual pain, etc.
