Completely Not Wedding Related, no point to this at all, just mad….
This morning on the way to work, I’m driving on my merry little way. I take the exit and stay in the right lane of a 40mph 2 lane road. The right lane becomes a turn only lane and I need to keep going straight, there is a silver car waaaaay back up the hill, plenty of space for me so I get over in the left lane (which becomes the only lane) and start slowing down b/c speed limit turns into 30mph. The freaking silver car comes flying down the hill and gets right up on my bumper. Seriously?! We get to a stop light where I wait and the car keeps inching close and closer until I SWEAR his bumper is touching my car!!! Light turns green and now I’m getting scared. I don’t want to go over the speed limit b/c there is ALWAYS a cop that sits at the end of the street plus its dangerous to speed up when you being tailgated. So I finally decide to just pull over. I put my blinker on and start pulling over. Freaking a-hole in the silver car has to slam on his breaks to miss hitting me because he is so freaking close!!!!!! Then of course after I’ve pulled over the toolbag floors it and the cop that’s ALWAYS there has someone else pulled over. ERRRR!!!
What is the big FREAKING hurry? It drives me nuts to no end that people can’t just slow down! Do they not realize how dangerous that is?!!!!!!

Being tailgated is my #1 pet peeve when it comes to driving. I’m glad you didn’t get hit!

People are really stupid unfortunately. I let people like that ride my ass. I almost got hit the other day (the guy slammed on his breaks and had to pull into the side lane to avoid hitting me) but i figure if i worry more about the dude behind me than what’s in front of me, that’s when I’ll have an accident.
Needles to say, I was really surprised when Darling Husband told me that in Missouri, you don’t have to have formal driving classes to get your license!

That sucks. Some people drive like a-holes! It is crazy how they sit right on your bumper. At least you didn’t get hit, although it would have been nice if he got pulled over!

UGH that would make me SO mad!!!!

A few weekends ago in my parents town the same thing happened – but the tailgater (and his passenger) ended up dying. A car pulled out from a gas station, and a mini-van came up behind the car very fast (on a 4-lane road). The mini-van driver definitely had road rage – kept tailing the car, swerving, etc. So eventually the car decided to pull off the road to let the mini-van pass (even though there was a passing lane). The mini-van follows the guy, but then speeds up to pass him on the residential street, hits a bump, and the mini-van goes flying and gets stuck between two row-homes. Both driver and passenger were killed.
June42011 – you did the right thing by letting the a-hole pass. Bummer the cop did not get him this time, but he will get his…..
And seriously, unless someone is rushing to see a dying friend in the hospital, what is the rush?? Nothing is more important that one’s life!!

@ejs4y8 – Good point! I’ll remember that next time, sometimes its just so hard to ignore though!
@Rock Hugger –That’s horrible! I just don’t understand it!!! It’s one thing if you tend to speed but quite another when your a demon on the road!

I live in Nashville and it’s the exact opposite here. EVERYONE drives soooooo slow. Slow to the point that they are going to cause an accident. When it’s raining and you are going 40 miles per hour in the fast lane on the interstate (where the speed limit is 70) WITHOUT your headlights on.. someone is going to hit you from behind. They also have apparently never heard of blinkers. Or the fact that a green light means go, and you don’t have to wait for a formal invitation to hit the gas pedal.

@Moose1209: I agree, we often have this same problem in Florida with all the snowbirds. Plus you get idiot old drivers that try to do stupid things like being in the left lane and suddenly realize they need to turn right and then just turn without switching lanes. Or decide to stop in the lane to make a turn rather then getting out of the lane and into the turn lane. More often these types of things will cause accidents!

@Moose1209 Ditto. Nashville got rated the worst traffic in the nation!
@june42011 I definitely can feel ya. Today my SO saved our freakin lives while some girl went without the right of way and we were inches from a collision.. until my SO’s awesome driving skills kicked in!

I was going home tonight on a 5 lane street that has a 40mph speed limit. I got stuck behind a guy going 22mph and no one was in front of him :/
I also hate people who decide to create a lane that doesn’t exist so they can get ahead of traffic (like when the lane is big enough for two cars but is still one lane). Or on the freeway when it is backed up they will zoom down the exit lane and then cut back into traffic when their lane ends. Grrr.

RIght now my biggest pet peeve is the people who forget how to drive because it has snowed an inch or two. Honestly, you have probably lived in this state your whole life. Why is it a surprise EVERY time winter comes around and the roads are a little icy. Why are you driving 30 mph when it hasn’t snowed in 5 days? Please move!
