Hello fellow brides,
I need a little advice. I need to decide if I want to do a very small wedding ceremony and reception at home or head to the carribean. My parents aren’t interested in contributing to the wedding, so having a big ceremony at home is out of the question. I love the idea of getting married on the beach, but several of my closest friends wouldn’t be able to afford the trip. So it’s either settle for a small wedding but have all of my loved ones there or do the beautiful beach thing without a lot of them.

Can you have a beach wedding at home? Sorry if that’s a silly question, I don’t really know anything about Bismarck 🙂
I voted for small ceremony. A beach wedding would be wonderful but I can’t imagine getting married without my friends and family there to support me and celebrate with me. Plus you could save up for a honeymoon in the Caribbean – best of both worlds. It’s up to you, of course, but that’s my thoughts on it 🙂

I’m dealing with something similar, most friends and family can’t afford to travel to the Caribbean for a ceremony ( even if we rent a Villa for them to stay in). So we’re thinking ceremony our way, reception when we get home. The fact that you used the term “settle for a small wedding” is really a clue to me what you really want. A bride should never “settle”.

I’d stay at home and have all your favourite people there. It sounds like it would be a whole lot easier on your guests and their bank accounts. Save the trip for the honeymoon!

I would go for a beach wedding, i think is more romantic and memorable, the environment is fantastic and creates a wonderful atmosphere, but it really depends on what is more important for you whether to have all your close friends there or have a ceremony at the beach which sounds like you really want.

Just remember that a reception is the most important part of a wedding, the ceremony doesn’t turn out anywhere near as much as the reception.
We are having a small beach wedding here on the Oregon coast, but we were considering going to the Caribbean. Look into having a wedding at Sandals down there, they have quite a few packages including a free one! Then just have your closest family and friends. Then when you get home have a pot luck or a bbq. Something really laid back.
@caffeiney: Bismarck, ND is pretty land locked. It’s in the Midwest and there’s not much in the way of beach front land. If there’s any at all, I certainly don’t remember it.

@caffeiney: North Dakota is no where near the ocean. Are you from the United States?
I agree with people who suggested to stay at home, and save for an awesome honeymoon. What kind of venues are in your area? Do you like any of them?
