So I’m really new to posting on message boards, I’ve never really done it, but I think this is the right place for me to find advice.
I’m currently living with my grandparents, and my fiance is living with his parents about 40 miles away. Needless to say, our current living situation SUCKS. We just found an apartment that we absolutely LOVE in an amazing location between our 2 jobs. We also have decided to get married right before we move in (about a month). Our families are pretty traditional, and think it’s a good idea for us to get married before we move in (especially my grandparents) and so do we. We love each other and we JUST WANT TO BE TOGETHER.
My father lives about 4 hours away, and my mother lives in Arizona. Our relationship is strained, to put it mildly. My fiance and I want to have an extremely small ceremony on the porch of our new apartment, and I’m at a loss as to how to proceed with telling them, and figuring out how to deal with my mother wanting to be at the ceremony (it’s a little difficult for her to be there). If they wanted to be there, that’s great, but it’s not really necessary for me.
How do I reconcile wanting to make everyone happy with doing what my fiance and I want to do? I just want to be married and living with him, and to start our new life together!
