@barbie86:  Ummm okay.  I was just throwing out the idea of an anti-inflammatory if the OP hadn’t tried one that’s all.

That’s fine 🙂 It’s just that she had said what painkillers she’d tried; most women with painful periods will try anti-inflammatories as well as hormonal BC.

I’m sorry if you felt attacked; just I used to get annoyed when people would question why I wanted to stop my periods and start suggesting painkillers; I appreciate they help some people, but for a lot of women they can be pretty ineffective; that was all I was trying to say. IMPO truly severe pain is not helped by painkillers, prescription or otherwise.

@Aure:

I’m really lucky and with progestogen-only methods I don’t get periods at all, and when I was on microgynon, the pain went from very severe to moderate straight away; I just needed a few ibuprofen to take the edge off and that was it. Hence why I’ve been on hormonal BC constantly for the last decade, apart from a dumb 2 month experiment about 4 years ago when I wanted to see if my periods were as bad as they used to be (they were worse, so it was a very short experiment lol) I’m fortunate though; a lot of women don’t get on great with hormonal BC or find it only helps a tiny bit.

@MrsSl82be:  Which part? The IUD insertion or the TCM?

Are you planning on never ever having children or maybe one day? I had the Essure procedure done last week, but it is permanent sterilization.

Well I already have 2 children and 2 stepchildren. But I have talked to my doc and he would be willing to give it to younger patients after several counseling sessions to be sure that it is what they wanted since it is considered irreversible.

You might want to call around to doctoes in your area. Now I did have to go on depo prior and for three months after. It helps to thin the lining I believe. And to be honest the lidocaine on my cervix was murder. The insertion was not bad. But afterwards I had fiery uterys which went to bad cramps then no cramps within 2 days. It is an outpatient procedure and he said all went well. We sill see in 3 months…lol

There are no hormones involved. I was looking at it from a CBC POV. And yes I was talking about people in their early 20’s. Sometimes it is all about the dr. A vasectomy would probably be best then. I do remember reading something about a procedure where they scrape the uterus for heavy periods, but to be honest it sounded painful and not worth it.

@Aure:  Sorry if I’m harping on this too much, but have you thought about using TCM to help with your heavy AF? I just had my first cycle since I had my IUD removed last year, that wasn’t helped by hormones, so totally natural, and it was so normal and nice. I know it’s because I’m using TCM and acupuncture.

So just to let you know my history, prior to the Mirena in 2009, I was having really heavy periods and they suggested BCP (which I can’t take). I suggested Mirena and they agreed. While it was in, I was still having some issues, like spoting for months on end, but at least no heavy period.

I had it removed Dec 2010. Then all hell broke loose. I was having heavy, heavy 14-60 day (that’s right, AF for 2 months straight) periods that they couldn’t stop– provera, estrogen, bcp. It totally sucked. Finally last Oct-Nov with Clomid, Prometrium and Ovidrel trigger I was able to ovulate and have a somewhat normal cycle. But AF was still long and heavy (8 days). Last month I took off from hormone treatment and just used TCM and acupucture. This AF was 2 heavy days, 1 regular day and 3 days of spotting. It was so wonderful.

I really think TCM could help you so much!
