Aure: I’m really sorry to hear the Mirena didn’t work out; but one thing I’d say is to ask whoever fitted it how many they’ve fitted in the past. I’ve not heard of many women at all who’ve been unable to have one fitted, and this would make me question the expertise of the doctor in question. In the UK it’s VERY common for childless/free women to have Mirenas and I’ve never heard of problems during insertion; so, I would consider finding a different doctor and tryign again, or possibly finding someone to fit it under GA.
Failing that, I’ve been on Cerazette (a mini-pill) for 2 years and I honestly cannot recommend it enough. I had very heavy bleeding inc clots weeks 2-4;but I have had no bleeding, and no periods, since. I also had very bad mood swings inc severe anxiety and suicidal thoughts for weeks 1-4 (first packet) but have had zero hormonal side effects sinces. So if the Mirena is def out, please don’t despair; I was very anxious about trying the mini-pill as I’d heard some awful stories, but I love it 🙂

@barbie86: What she told me was that my uterus was just too small for it and that if she placed it it would likely perforate my uterus or just be expelled. Based on what the nurse told me the doctor has done many IUD placements for nulliparous patients so I don’t know if that’s it or if it’s just me. It’s difficult for me to take time off of work so I was super disappointed that I wasted a whole day for nothing and half of FI’s work day as well (not to mention all of the money I’ve spent so far). I’m pretty sure that I’d need to purchase a new Mirena to try with a different doctor so I don’t know if it’s worth it right now.
I did look into Cerazette before I went for my appointment but it’s not available in the US. I’m sure there’s an equivalent but I didn’t look much further into it being hopeful that the Mirena would just work. If the Lo Loestrin Fe doesn’t work out I’ll certainly look further into it and ask for it as an option. I had mentioned to her that I sometimes forget to take my pill so I think that’s why she went with the Lo Loestrin Fe as the first option to try rather than a traditional minipill.
Thank you so much for your insight and support, it’s been a big help.
