- Wedding: April 2012
After months of trying to cut down our guest list into something that’s financially manageable while still inviting the people we love, I’m realizing that it’s either going to be 30 people (family and closest friends) or 100 (extended family, good friends).
My solution – 30 person courthouse ceremony followed by a decadent brunch or early dinner in a private room at our favorite café, followed by a 100-person big ol’ back yard reception (live bands, DJ, taco truck, the works).
I love this idea – have always wanted a courthouse wedding, just think they are super swoony. And this satisfies FI’s itch for a big party. My real dilemma is timing.
The Beverly Hills Courthouse is only open for civil ceremonies on Thursdays, so it would have to be a weekday wedding. So do we hold the reception the following Friday night? Or Saturday? Or if we wait a few weeks, will it be weird to have a gap in between?
Have you done this (or contemplated it) and if so, how did it work out? If you were invited to a wedding celebration rather than a ceremony/reception, would you feel slighted?
For the record, I’m not really interested in reinacting my vows at the party, though maybe we would do the first dances, etc, and I would totaly wear my dress again!
