formal dinner is great… dinner and dancing would be best! Florida can have great nightlife, try to find some places near your dinner that people can dance and actually have fun and let loose at

I think that the “show” aspect of wedding receptions are ridiculous and I am amazed at how invested people on this website are in all that biz.

Unless it’s ehtnic, and then I love it, but it has to be pretty far away from my culture to interest me any more.

Congratulations!  Having a Dinner is perfectly fine, it’s not written in stone that you have all the hoop-la, do it your way. 

You might want to consider allowing a few key people to give a toast and maybe if there’s a dessert is served  the two of you could cut a small cake  (even the size of the top layer of cake) just for the “feel” of wedding day & to have a few pictures taken.
