My ring total is .5 carats. It’s a cluster of 9 diamonds set in a square setting, with 5 diamonds on each side of the band. The matching band is a little less than .5 diamonds. I picked out my ring, and I love it,

is it beautiful? I think it is. but everyone has their own preferance.

OP, there is NOTHING wrong with a 0.25 carat ring, or even less! Or one with no diamonds! An engagement ring is whatever you say it is.

For example, mine DOES happen to be made of gold and (very small) diamonds, about 0.25 total, actually. But if it had been silver or gemstones or a plain band it would have been a lovely engagement ring nonetheless.

I’ve been told it’s not an engagement ring by jealous and petty people. Too bad for them that they have to say and think such ugly things, right?

MrsVanilla that ring is lovely! Where’s it from?

@FutureMrsWeston:  I understand where you are coming from. Since you are wearing the ring everyday–you should be proud of it. Unfortunately, there is a lot of social pressure that women are under especially when it comes to “the ring.” You may want to consider getting a .50 to .70 Moissanite or even Swarovsky stone in a gold setting (Macy’s has Swarvsky in 14K gold). If you keep the center stone below one carat no one will know it’s not a diamond. If a diamond look is what you’re going for–people will assume it’s a diamond.

When I first got engaged I was (still am) against conflict diamonds. My poor fiance did not know what to do because he was dead set on buying a diamond for me. So he proposed with a beautiful halo Swarovsky ring–not in a gold setting. I wore that ring for 7 months–becuase it was not gold I could not wear it 24/7 and it did not hold up–Yikes! I was shocked that people assumed it was a diamond–and ppl were not being polite because after I told them it wasn’t they were surprised–to my joy.

We are long distance also–I was happy but he wasn’t. He ended up getting me a .48 carat diamond  solitaire that is GORGEOUS. We are both happy now. So, consider getting a gold setting and getting another gem as the center stone. You can drop hints to him that you’d rather get a retainer ring and save up for the dream ring. He should respect your wishes especially if you are reasonable and saving him money. As a word of advice–if you want to pull off a diamond look alike keep the center stone under .70 ct.

@MrsSnowMountain:  Your ring is so beautifully delicate. It exudes true love to me. I don’t know you, but I think that ring is perfect. It has personality and character.

@Kimy:  Lol, I would be a very unhappy woman if I actually thought that.  Average ring size here is about .25 carats, so that’s probably around what I’ll be getting.

Tita4Justice Aww oh my gosh, thank you, that’s so nice! <3 It definitely does have special symbolism for us. Besides the obvious I mean, lol. It’s a “replica” of a family heirloom that we accidentally came across on the vintage section of Etsy!

Yes, small diamonds can be beautiful. I love mine. The centre stone is 0.36 carat.

I’m not even sure what my weight is.  All I know is it’s puny, and that’s just fine by me.  I have more important stuff to spend money on for the time being. 🙂  A big diamond does not a happy relationship make.

The total weight if mine is .5 but I’m not sure of the center stone. I love it and that’s all that matters 🙂
