- Wedding: July 2014
Sorry for being away for a while! Congratulations to all the waiting bees who have got engaged lately! 🙂
Over the weekend my SO and I had our 8 years anniversary!! We had a lovely weekend, and we talked about a couple of engagement type things 🙂
Background: we are both 22 and finishing university this summer, then in September we are moving in together, and he is starting work while I am doing a postgrad qualification before starting a job in Feb 2014. We have already agreed we won’t be getting married before then, as I will still be getting some financial help from my parents while studying. Plus we would both like to buy a house as soon as we can afford it, and honestly I think he wants a house before a wedding (to minimise time spent paying rent) but hasn’t quite said so in as many words – although I am starting to agree with him even though that means waiting longer. I have said, though, that I don’t want to buy a house without being engaged, which he agrees is reasonable.
We discussed the possibility of having a long engagement so that we can show our commitment to each other while continuing to save up for house/wedding 🙂 We already have some savings from having both had a “year out” spent working as a part of our degree courses.
I let him know I would gladly help to pay for a ring and he is happy to let me help. Then he asked if I would like to choose my own ring, and I said I wasn’t sure, but maybe it would be good to go shopping together at some point so we can get an idea of what looks good on my finger.
I asked whether he would propose in the next two years, and he said “Promise” and gave me a big cuddle. I know for lots of waiting bees, 2 years is a loooong time but for us it’s a very reasonable timeframe, and really I am just happy knowing we are on the same page 🙂 I feel much better knowing I have an “end-point” to the waiting and I can start counting down the months, even if it is 2 years away! Our relationship is in a good place at the moment and I can’t wait for when we move in together in a few months 🙂
