Sorry to go anon for this one. I know I know, this is relatively normal. Embarassed just the same.
So today is Monday. The plan is (was?) to have sex with the long distance boyfriend of 6 months for the first time this Saturday when he is back in town. Thing is, I got my period on Sunday (yesterday). While I should be finished by Saturday.. I don’t know about you gals, but things don’t smell so great in the days after my period ends. What a damn mood killer, and what awful timing for someone in a LDR, lol. Doesn’t help he loves cunnilingus..
So I know douching is a no no. Are there any natural ways to deal with this? And I’m not trying to be immature, I’m a 28 year old woman for goodness sake and have had the period talk with boyfriends, but it just sucks given the nature of our relationship this time.. should I just tell him/warn him? Or hope for the best.
Darn my luck!
Thanks girls. Insert dramatic crying emoticon here. lol

rossiegirl: Is it like a metallic smell from the blood?

Me personally? I’d douche. I have in the past, and I’m sure one time won’t do harm… Especially if you really wanna clean it all out.

Hey Ms Country girl! Kind of, yeah. It seems to take a few days for me to get rid of it. Also just kind of a unfresh feeling, ya know? I don’t smell like myself if that makes sense. And you know how strong smells can get when you’re having sex…I’m worried about it getting intensified.
Graygodess, what do you use? Over the counter stuff?

rossiegirl: Yeah I think that’s totally natural, but I understand your dilemma! I agree with PP, douching one time shouldn’t hurt anything. I’ve never done that before, but I’m guessing maybe you should do it the day before you are going to see him (or after AF ends) so your body has time to regain it’s natural scent.

rossiegirl: yep just summers eve kund. It’s pretty cheap too. Granted I still wouldn’t do it all the time. It could mess with your ph balance and everything

rossiegirl: Personal and embarrassing question for me to ask: Do you clean it “out”? When talking to my friends, I’ve learned that not everyone goes “all the way” if you can catch what I’m throwing lol. I’ve never used a douche, but I guess I kind of do a similar action in the shower with the running water. It makes me feel clean as a whistle and I’ve never had an issue with an odor. I clean and rinse the inside out like this everyday with soap and water. If you don’t, maybe a good ol’ swishing and rinsing around in the shower with a mild soap is worth a try? Ahhhhh! I can’t believe I’m typing this! Sorry for TMI! Lol

Maybe use baby wipes after you use the bathroom that week to help freshen up? It will help you feel cleaner and they usually smell pretty nice.

chelebelle15: I was going to suggest the same thing.
I use feminine wipes both during and after my period. I actually use them after going to the bathroom anytime. I just feel cleaner that way. It especially helps during that time of the month.

Please, for the love of God, don’t douche. I am saying this as a medical professional. The vagina is one of the world’s most efficient SELF-cleaners, and mucous takes care of mostly everything you have to worry about. It’s not supposed to smell like roses. It’s some of the worst chemicals you can put into your body, and unfortunately chemicals in that area aren’t well regulated or tested – and douching paves the path to irritation, vaginosis, and I’ve even seen some pelvic inflammatory disease as a result of this. Yes, douching once CAN hurt.
If you feel uncomfortable… take a shower, the two of you, and just rinse with warm water. That’s it. That’s all it (medically) needs, your body will take care of the rest – plus you’ll feel a lot better knowing your partner saw you showering, and understand your clean.

Thanks guys 🙂 The LadyA – I actually know exactly what you mean, no need to be embarassed 😉 That’s a good idea.
Nikkiibee you’re right, thanks for the reminder that douching isn’t a great idea. That being said I know vaginas don’t smell like flowers, but this is different than a normal smell. So I’m still a little worried :S

rossiegirl: Yes, agree the PPs, use feminine wipes. They definitely help, at all times of the month, but especially around that time. Makes you feel clean during the day as time passes after your last shower. And if it makes you feel better, maybe sex in the shower would be the best. That way you guys can clean up right after.
Good Luck OP!!

TheLadyA : Do you actually clean inside? Like inside the vagina, or just around the lips and stuff?

CHristine2809: I actually do clean the inside :-/ lol

rossiegirl: if it’s not normal smelling you might want to test for an infection.
