My crazy sense of smell is driving me crazy and making me so nauseous at every turn. The absolute worst triggers are cigarettes and alcohol. If my husband has even one glass of wine I can smell it coming off of him so bad you’d think he would have chugged like three bottles!! It’s gotten so bad that I make him sleep in our guest bedroom if he’s had anything to drink at all. I know I’m probably driving him crazy.
Thank god he doesn’t smoke but two of my best friends do and when I hug them after they’ve had a cigarette I literally hold back the puke. Ugh.
Anyone else going through this?? What smells are driving you crazy and making you feel sick?

@AnnaBanana27: THIS IS ME! My husband always falls asleep on the couch first, and I feel no shame leaving him there on night’s he’s had alcohol. I can smell it seeping through his pores, I swear. It’s disguisting. And if he goes to play pool or have a beer with friends at the bar, I ask him to shower and change as soon as he gets home. Those two smells are just so pervasive, it’s the one thing that really gets me. Other smells? No big deal. I mean, sometimes it’s even handy. I haven’t burned a single cookie or crescent roll since getting knocked up 😉

Yea the sense of smell is really rough but it did get better for me.
I just moved offices and a guy brews really heavy smelling vanilla coffee. EW!

The reason I even took a pregnancy test in the first place was because my sense of smell had gotten so strong. I went out to lunch with coworkers the Friday before I took the test and all I could smell were the lemon wedges on our water glasses. I was like, are these the freshest lemons ever or what?? And nobody else could even smell them. Throughout my pregnancy I had to use plain unscented soaps and FH couldn’t wear any kind of strong body wash or cologne. It got better into the second trimester, but I still couldn’t wear perfume or anything like that until the baby was born. Garlic was so bad, too!! FH likes to snack on butter and garlic croutons and I’d have to leave the room.

Yep, it was actually a signal I WAS pregnant!LOL I was smelling stuff and my mom was like I don’t smell anything. It was crazy. Still is because I hate the smell of my house now. It doesn’t stink, it’s just no smell smell is bothering me! I light candles for that reason.

I had that really really bad. I couldn’t even enter the kitchen most of the time..I think onions/garlic were the worst, but I basically had to avoid anywhere where food was being prepared. Even walking by a restaurant was nauseating. Luckily the past few weeks it has gotten a lot better. So stay strong girls!

I was at the post office the other day and this guy was in line behind me who smelled of stale cigarettes so bad I couldn’t take it, it was so awful! But yeah, it’s amazing how much my sense of smell has changed.

I know I’m dragging up an old post, but this is exactly me at the moment!
It’s great when I’m smelling nice things, but bad BO and breath are really starting to annoy me. I was out last night watching a soccer match with Darling Husband and I was going crazy with all the scents, charcoal grilled steaks, lasagne, savoury pancakes, popcorn, waffles… man I was having a whole meal through my nostrils! I always worried about how I’d be without being allowed a glass of wine once in a while, and – ok it’s early days, but the smell of alcohol realyl makes me heave. 🙂

I know what you mean! I was worried about giving up coffee, but the smell of it made me dry heave (and I LOVE coffee!!!). I read somewhere that the sensitive smelling power is a protective mechanism. You’re better able to tell if the food you’re eating is safe–supposedly would have been really helpful back when we didn’t have refrigeration. That’s apparently why meat grosses out a lot of women with morning sickness too.
Plus, smells of things that aren’t good for you when you’re pregnant can be really repulsive, also protective.
Anyway, coping with the smells and nausea was a little easier for me when I knew there was a reason for them. And now I have a beautiful little girl who was so worth it!
