Sigh.  That is the most absurd thing I have ever heard.

I can’t imagine smoking while pregnant. It’s not worth the risk. There’s a young woman who works in our building who smokes through each and every one of her pregnancies. She doesn’t even try to hide it. She also looks like she might smack you down if you gave her a look…

Totally unacceptable. For whatever article she found online, there are a host of scientific studies that have shown deleterious effects on a developing fetus due to cigarette smoke. Why would you even risk it?? Just stupid if you ask me.

There are tons and tons of articles online that contradict whatever quack article she sent you. Smoking is so not okay while pregnant

It’s  not something I’d personally choose to do. Sounds like she’s just attempting to justify a bad decision because it’s easier than quitting.

not ok, never never never! Shame on anyone who smokes while pregnant!  That just makes me sick. Way to put you before your baby.

@Sassygrn:  Exactly.

My reply to her would be the articles that say the exact opposite.  I wouldn’t just send one link either.

I don’t think it’s right. I’m sure she knows that it’s wrong but is trying to feel better about her choice.

I knew a gal who convinced herself that the stress from trying to quit was more harmful to the baby than the cigarettes.  It’s sad, but people do it.

It’s horrible but I live in a small-ish town in the south and I would say %70 of the pregnant women I know still smoke. Of course they are also pretty young (18-20) so they’re ignorant to this kind of stuff. I have no children and i don’t plan on picking up the habit. I’m studying RN and there are so many risks involved with smoking while pregnant that I just can’t imagine why someone would risk it. Smoking is a huge risk along with not taking enough folic acid, those two are probably the two big ones I hear the most about with defects.
