It’s large, but I don’t think it’s too big. I honestly think sometimes darker stones look better a bit bigger cause it seems to allow more sparkle and shine. If you’re still worried about size, take a look at Kate Middleton’s sapphire. That thing is huge and couldn’t be lovelier.

I do so agree! I have several rings with soft stones and masses of silver too.  One antique is Georgian, an emerald flanked by two diamonds. The emerald , not surprisingly, is a bit worn after 200 plus years. 

I think will a reasonable amount of care a soft stone is fine. Not as if most of us sort rocks or something by hand after all.
