- Wedding: November 2012
Just came across your post but just wanted to say congrats and offer a little advice if you’re still stressing (I know my stress about the wedding went in waves)…
First of all, if looking at wedding sites, blogs, etc stress you out and make you feel like you’re not doing enough… stop looking at them! I think that’s the best thing I ever did when planning my wedding. I was planning a small, fusion wedding and so kept looking at Indian wedding sites and can I say those are way too overwhelming. I did have a few ideas I wanted to carry out and that’s the only time I would search for something specific so I could have a better idea how to do it.
Second, focus on the “feeling” you want at the wedding. Do you want it full of laughter? Do you want it laid back? Etc… then plan around the feeling you want. I can say that definitely reflects on that day.
Third ask yourself if stressing over all the details is ruining the wedding for yourself. I became so bogged down with planning a small overseas wedding that I began to say “I hate this wedding” and really hated being asked if I was excited about the wedding.
For beach weddings, less is definitely more (IMO). You’re already at a beautiful place. And sounds like you’ll have people you love there and you’ll be marrying your sweetheart! Those pictures you posted look wonderful and honestly a good photographer can make any wedding, small or large look fantastic! Your day will be fantastic and remember it’s your wedding, not a wedding to be spread through every wedding magazine (although I think they could do with a few more down to earth weddings).
Our photographer typically does large Indian weddings. She loved our small, intimate wedding because she said it was so meaningful and everyone was always smiling and enjoying themselves and the colours we did use were great. The few pictures I’ve seen so far really reflect that (we just got married a week ago). And honestly, everyone said they loved the ceremony and dinner (no one has commented that we didn’t have fancy blog worthy decor or that there were no chair covers). They even wanted to take home the cheesy placards I made for a game we played (they thought they were the best thing ever! I figured I’d just be tossing them all at the end of the day – good thing we didn’t give guests favours too!). And both of us really enjoyed our wedding day and didn’t spend it stressing over the small details!
