So scary! I’m glad you two are both okay. A great reminder to wear All The Gear All The Time.

naiade:  Happy to hear everyone is alive and well! I ride, my husband does not, but I always wear my helmet, gloves, jacket, and boots. Even when it’s hot as hell outside! 2 of my roommates in college crashed their motorcycles (both are ok and were wearing helmets) but one without gloves really tore up his hands (don’t want to get too graphic) and both suffered pretty bad road rash. It’s a scary thing, be careful!

Last year at the end of the season Fiance and I were heading to our garage to store the bike for the winter.  We were literally 1 mile from our home and I was following him in our car.  Someone turned out across all the lanes trying to get in front of me and never saw Fiance and smashed right into him in front of me!  It was horrible!!!  Thank god Fiance was wearing his helmet, I watched his head hit so hard and the rest seemed in slow motion but watching his head hit is what scared me the most.  Thank GOD for the helmet!!!!!

Fiance was perfectly fine minus some bruises and scratches.  So glad you guys are ok as well!  It is very scary.

naiade:  I agree!  I was freaking out about Fiance then I saw him get up and he went running over to the car that hit him and after he got his helmet off he was screaming at the guy.  I went running over and at that point I was more worried Fiance was going to beat the crap out of him.  The guy was seriously scared shitless of Fiance all he kept saying was “I didn’t see you, I didn’t see you!” Well no shit you didn’t see him or you wouldn’t have hit him!  Look before you pull out into traffic FFS!!!

Like you my nerves were so shot and I was just crying hysterically after everything was done.  Fiance was sitting there while the EMT’s were checking him out and he was trying to comfort me and gave me his jacket since I was shaking from my nerves lol.

We both still ride (not together I have my own bike).  I get very nervous sometimes still and did have nightmares for a bit but I’m ok for the most part now.  My uncle died when I was 8 being hit on his motorcycle that never stopped my dad either, he has always ridden and would pick me up from middle school on his bike.  It’s just how I grew up so I woudn’t think of not riding anymore.

naiade:  That goodness you guys are ok! How frightening! I just witnessed the aftermath of a horrible motorcycle accident on Friday. Apparently there was a stalled car on the highway and a motorcycle hit it going highway speed. The driver was airlifted out, and I still have no idea if he’s ok. While I didn’t see the accident happen, I saw the motorcycle laying in the road. I couldn’t even tell it was a motorcycle save for one handlebar that was recognizable. Nothing else about the bike looked like one. And witnesses said he wasn’t wearing a helmet.

it’s a common myth that wearing a helmet doesnt help in a crash or makes things even worse

I’m amazed at the people who don’t wear helmets! 🙁 I don’t understand it! When I was a kid, my dad was in a pretty bad accident where someone hit him, and the helmet was the one thing that saved his life (and even that helmet was cracked down the middle). Imagine if that had been his skull! 🙁

So thankful you are safe!

GFerg:  You’re right about the myth! I’ve had older men try to tell me that (I guess they’re too cool for helmets?) and I wear a full face helmet. I just say “I have to protect all this sexiness” and wave my hand in front of my face.

So glad you’re both OK!

I see so many people zipping around without helmets or leathers and I cringe internally. The damage that would be caused coming off without the necessary gear just doesn’t bear thinking about.

I remember years ago, my dad was hit side on by a taxi at a junction, low speed with all his leathers on and the state of his leg was unbelievable!
