I am trying to set up cable in my new house and I have called twice already…now they finally tell me that I cant get cable because its under the old owners name…so they told me I have to call the old owner of the house (no idea what that # is) and I asked if the account was under the owners or the renters name (the owner rented out the house to a tenant) and he wouldnt tell me that either. So now I have to figure out who the account was under and call them and ask permission to set up cable under my own name at MY OWN HOUSE?!?!?!?!? So pissed right now…since im a potential customer they should be doing a lot better than this!!! Like for example calling the number they have on file and seeing if in fact that person did move!! Since they wont give me the name and especially not the phone number! Sorry im so angry right now!!!

Umm.. that doesnt sound right.. Can you take your paperwork showing that it is your property up to the cable company and show them.. When I have wanted to switch stuf to my name all i had to do was go up there and tell them where I live and that I want the bill in my name. Why would you want to put something like that in YOUR name if YOU didnt live there.. sometimes companies are dumb.

That’s pretty weird. The only thing that I can think of is maybe the renter left without paying the cable bill and they are trying to make sure that’s it’s not you trying to get cable under another name. My advice would be to go down to your local division and explain to them that you just bought/moved into the house and would like to get new service installed. You will definitely get better service in person than you will over the phone.

We had a similar thing happen to us. The jerk before us didn’t pay his last bill and didn’t return his cable box so they wouldn’t give us one. We ended up having to go in so they could check our ID and make sure we were new people and not the previous tenant.

I second the idea to go in, with the purchase paperwork, some bill sent to the house, and photo IDs so they can see that you own the house and live there and you aren’t this other person.
