That sucks.  I guess there customer service doesn’t consist of helping out the customer.

I would ask to speak to a manager… not in a threatening way, just b/c I bet someone at a higher level would be able to fix it for you. Often they don’t let low-level customer service people have that much power to actually do stuff, but if you get on the phone with someone higher up and just be charming but audibly a bit frustrated, you may be able to get some results. Good luck!

What the cable company is telling you to do makes no sense and boarders on insane. You ought to be able to just call and get someone to come set up the cable, no problem. I agree with worcesterbride- call them again and ask to speak to a manager. Explain that you just bought the house and moved in (that’s what it sounds like in your post anyhow?) and you simply want them to come install cable in your new home. It is NOT your responcibility to track down previous owners/renters. IF they seriously need to know those people have moved, it is up to them to track them down and find out. However, they shouldn’t need to know this! I have never lived in anything other then apartments and never once was I asked to track down the previous renter to prove that they’d really moved so I could get cable or internet. Crazy company. Who are they, by the way?

What a pain!  Do you still get signal?  Can you … take advantage? :p

The local paper forgot to stop delivery after the previous owners moved, so I was getting the paper for free until I called and asked for a holiday hold… I’d thought perhaps they were letting the subs run out as a gift for us, but no, they’d canceled a week or two before we moved in…

Ugh, we had bad experiences with the local cable company, Dish, and DirectTV.  In October or November, we ended up completely cancelling our cable and just going to AppleTVs.  I am soooooo much happier!

I would come right out and *say* to the next person you talk to that getting DirecTV or Dish would be much more convenient than what they’re asking you to do!
