Yipeebee: My mom didn’t tell me what it was about i kinda just went. Sad movies just make me sad for days. I much prefer happy endings. But that movie rocked my world to the point i just couldn’t handle diamonds. I had diamond earrings that I sold and donated the money to buy a family in africa a goat. I was 15 and couldn’t do it!!!

Thank you! I love it–have always loved royal blue sapphires, and I think the style is fairly classic. We women should all feel like a princess once in a while, right?!

Yipeebee: It has so much significance to us and to me personally. It’s my birthstone, it’s the month we met in and it’s in the shape of a pear, so to me it looks like a drop of water, and water has always been incredibly important and significant in my life, so pick one or take ’em all, if it hadn’t been an aquamarine I think people would be surprised!

Plus I’m like my friend I’d have rather have the money go to something more significant, like paying off our mortgage!

Okay, this is a small and vain problem but I do have minor regrets because my sapphire and diamond target ring doesn’t look good with just any colour of nail polish. Honestly, I know it’s silly but I like for these things to look nice together and it doesn’t.

For me, it depends on the day, honestly. I told my husband what I wanted (.5-carat, ideal princess, ascher, or emerald cut diamond, D-G color, VSI clarity, platinum or white gold band, bezel-set or squared-off prongs, channel-set diamonds in the band a plus…). He told me I had bad taste, solitaires were “boring” and that type of ring would look “dated” in a couple of years. So I was like, fine, it’s your money so buy me something you’d like to see me wear everyday for the rest of my life.

He got me the most amazing padparadsha, and I LOVE IT. The color is so intoxicating, it has great fire, and it looks different under different lighting conditions, sometimes more pink and sometimes more orange!

But some days, I’m a little sad, because people often say insensitive things when they see it, implying that I don’t look like I’m married, that he cheaped out (pretty sure this type of gemstone costs more than a diamond, though… isn’t it super rare?), that I’m not valued or loved, etc.

Anyways, here is my ring:

Yipeebee: Thanks! I think the yellow gold six prong setting really brings out the beauty of the stone.

Your ring is really beautiful too. It has such a sweet and delicate color. And it’s nice that you didn’t spend a ton on it. As much as I love jewelry, there are far better things to spend thousands of dollars on, like a house or a car or a Masters degree.

I’m sorry people have been so insensitive and unkind. Your ring is beautiful—and, yes, more rare and expensive than most diamonds. Your husband put a lot of thought into what he wanted for you and did not spare any expense. Wear with joy and happiness:)

orangedream71321: Thanks! DH was looking at rare gemstones for months, apparently. He chose this one because he thought it would look good with my warm complexion.

If you’d like one for your RHR, DH got mine from the Natural Sapphire Company: http://naturalsapphirecompany.com

I wouldn’t change mine for the world. I love that it’s unqiue. The diamond industry is a sham anyway. Whenever I look down at my 3.5 carat peachy pink spinel, I smile, and I know it’s special for more reasons than one.
