What about a band instead of a traditional engagement ring? There are some really pretty ones that will go with several styles and won’t be high-set as to get in the way when working with children.

Or one with aquamarine!

Do any of these appeal to you? I think they are gorgeous yet simple and elegant, not too gaudy or anything but still have style!

Eta, heres a morganite one! Just beautiful!

The first thing that came to mind was a bezel setting…either a solitaire, or a band?

I’ve always thought these settings were beautiful…and very secure!

The other thing I thought of was a ring like this:

(I know you said only white gold, but I would imagine you could get it in white instead of rose!)

Here’s a morganite in white gold, but the setting is probably less than ideal for you, height-wise and with the prongs: http://www.etsy.com/listing/110402501/morganite-ring-diamond-18k-white-gold?ref=sr_gallery_9&ga_search_query=morganite+ring&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_ref=auto3&ga_search_type=all

Also, if you chose a vintage/antique setting, the stone generally doesn’t sit up very high, so you might could go with something like that (diamond, aquamarine, morganite, etc.)

This style has low-profile stones.

i think something in a bezel or channel set would be good for your work as the setting is smooth and you won’t ever scratch a child.  they are also very versatile taking you from casual to dressy.

tell me if i’m even close.  what do you like/not like?

Because of the kids, I highly recommend something low set.  I really like the idea of a band; they’re low and blingy.  If I had a job where I needed something low set, I’d pick that.

The last one’s moissanite, don’t know if you’re open to that, but the setting’s really practical and low.
