Firstly, I’m sorry for whatever happened!

Second, I have a ring from MoissyCo and I absolutely adore it. You could always upgrade in the future.

@quierajen:  Can you take out a loan to pay it off?  I’ve been in a similar situation in the past due to a mistake, which was not our own.  We took out a 2nd mortgage to pay the IRS, because the IRS charges HUGE penalties/interest, and we would have NEVER gotten out of debt.  If you own a home and have a local bank or credit union I would definitely see what they can do for you.

How did he not notice that the company wasn’t deducting income tax?

@quierajen:  This is just me, but I would personally go for the ring and then just elope. Having a ring on my finger every day outweighs the desire for us to have a one day celebration. Is there a way you could save up for the ring? Maybe do one of those store cards and make sure it’s paid off by the time the interest-free period is up? I don’t normally suggest doing stuff like that, but an engagement ring is really special (to me anyway).

You can still get married… it just won’t be the ceremony you might dream of. Again, to me personally, the desire to be married would outweigh any need for a wedding.

@leembee:  Yeah, upon reading her follow-up post, I wondered that too. My pay slip shows the breakdown of everything that’s taken off.

@quierajen:  No it doesn’t matter, and I thought twice about asking.

I know in some lines of work, income tax is not deducted and is the sole responsibility of the employee to pay at the end of the year.  Either way,  adults look at their pay stubs and manage their money, so it is somewhat his responsibility.

I don’t know if you can work out a payment plan with the government, or even take out a small loan as was suggested by pp?

@quierajen:  Could you do something in between… like have your closest friends and family there, wear the dress, and have your parents pay for the bulk of it? Maybe not exactly how you imagined it would be, but you would have lots of nice memories, I think.

Crappy situation though… I totally sympathize with you! Hopefully it’ll all work out and you’ll just come out stronger ๐Ÿ™‚
