I’m so sorry to hear that.  I have the same exact fear and I hope you find a solution.

From my understanding you waited a full year to get an appraisal and there’s not much you can do about it now. I’m confused when you say you paid “several thousands more”. Thousands? For a diamond that size? Even if it was legitimately .75 was overpaying! Sorry you are going throught this definatley seek a second opinion. If they graded it in mount perhaps it’s very deep with a thick girdle and is the right weight. Do you SEE visable inclusions?

I’ve had some very different appraisals of my ring (as I have my grandma’s old insurance appraisals) and they vary by 0.1-0.2 carats and a grade or two of clarity. I go with the best appraisals rather than the worst when I tell people about my ring, to be honest though.

I honestly think you should get more than just one appraisal…  Kind of like when you go to the doctor and get bad news, you get more than just one opinion right?  Not to say that the jeweler you’re currently working with isn’t accurate, but you never know… I’m really sorry you’re going through this regardless, I know it’s maddening…  Good luck hun!

OMG no kidding you are mad!! I’ve also learned the hard way that when it comes to wedding stuff you simply cannot go with people who say they are going to help you out and do you a favor, do it for free, get you a discount etc, especially family.  We got our bands at Kay Jewellers.  Its so hard with jewellery to tell though, even my engagement ring we paid $1600 for it and its now in their catalogue for $2100.  Its like buying a car, you hope you can trust the salesperson but its impossible to tell if they are being 100% honest right.  I really hope you get your money back!!
