If you can’t love an animal, you are incapable of fully loving a human
My mom always said this, and I see it to be true. I think it is different to not like cats or dogs or not want them, but I am talking about physically abusing an animal. If you wouldn’t do it to a child, don’t do it to an animal, and if you do it to either the consequences should be ear the same.
My family has rescued over 60 animals in my lifetime, most of which members of my family has adopted. They are amazing animals. Even the cats that were deemed “ferral” and unable to ever be tame we managed to make loveable.

I hate people sometimes. That is heartbreaking 🙁

@lia22 That’s disgusting. I don’t know how anyone could hurt an animal and it makes me feel sick to my stomach. Seriously, stories like this outrage me and I can’t believe that animal cruelty doesn’t get a harsher punishment. You’d have to be a psychopath to do something like that, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it escalated.

+1. I’d be in the camp that would support this 😛

If someone does do something bad to that guy, I’ll gladly contribute to their legal defense fund.

when it happened it was everywhere here. all over the news, because they found him alive and everyone was hoping that he’d make it, but he didn’t. And then the outrage began…petitions and protests, and nothing came of it. The details were all out in the open and I bawled like a baby when I heard, and again I cried when we heard of the pathetic sentence. It breaks my heart in half.

So so so angering and sad, I just cried reading this. That poor innocent animal, I just don’t understand our world sometimes.

Animal abuse laws need stricter consequences. Its sickening and sad. I hope he lives in fear, in fact, I would cheer if someone did the same to him.

Far be it from me to defend an animal abuser, because what he did is sickening and makes me want to cry, but…people generally don’t seem to have a good understanding of insanity pleas. Insanity itself is more a legal term than a psychological one, so when you’re talking about insanity they usually mean a psychotic disorder like schizoprehnia, where you can suffer a serious break from reality.
Saying “people who are insane dont know it” is just blatantly BS. People with schizoprehnia can still have considerable insight into their condition when they’re stabilized. Unfortunately it takes a lifetime of medication in the right dosages and therapy to manage the symptoms, and most will experience psychotic breaks. It’s very possible, if this man is truly suffering from paranoid schizophrenia, that he could have seen the animal as a real danger. They see, hear and believe things that are absurd to the rest of us during these episodes.
Besides which, insanity pleas don’t happen (successfully) nearly as often as most people think. It takes a lot more than just saying “oh hey I was crazy when I killed that guy, sorry.”
this story made me sick to my stomach and I hate that so many beautiful, loving animals are hurt. But I also feel like people need a better education on the prevalence and treatment mental illness in this country.

if it had come out from the beginning that he was mentally ill, I would agree with you, but it didn’t. It came out well afterwards so it sounds to me like a way to get out of jail time in this case.
Yes there are differences between being mentally ill and not taking medication or being diagnosed properly, causing people to do things they wouldn’t if they’d have been treated or if they weren’t sick, but there is also an issue with people who have a million excuses who end up using this one. And I do believe there needs to be responsibility on those with illness to get help. It’s not the dogs fault that he didn’t get help if he needed it. If he new he had a problem and ignored it, then he is just as responsible and to blame than if he wasn’t ill, no?

So.. I am NOT reading the article… I have very little faith in humanity as it is… but does anyone know what happened to the dog? Is he alive? Is he doing ok?

they spent a day trying to save him, but he died the following day. They said if he was to live he would have been in really bad shape anyhow but they did try everything they could.
