$10 pp for 80 guests is $800, which, imo, is high for that cake. Where did you come up with $400? I think $400 would be somewhat reasonable.

texaslemon:  I don’t have a good range of what’s a good price or not, because my baker friend is doing my cake/dessert bar and cutting me a massive deal as part of my “gift” for the wedding. I’m getting a three tiered cake, two-three hundred cupcakes with five to six different flavors and a few different cookies for only $400. Like I said, she’s cutting us a massive deal and I think she’s just charging us for ingredients.

Your cake looks gorgeous!!!

tksjewelry:  Just to clarify I think she was saying $10/pp (80 people) so $800 TOTAL for two cakes…so $400/cake

OP I still think that’s a lot for a cake

tksjewelry:  I think it is $10 pp total (for both cakes), so each cake is $400.

My best friend just had her wedding and her cake was 5 layers for 175 people and was $800 (I asked her to get an idea of how much we should bedget for our cake!). We live in Indianapolis, so while not a MAJOR metro area, it’s still a metro area and it worked out to $4.50/pp.

texaslemon:  we did cupcakes and a small 6″ cake that was 3 ombrey’d layers and it was $500 for 75 people.  It seems high, but your grooms cake is highly detailed…

That seems extremely high.  The wedding cake is a generic design, can’t imagine why it would be more than $2.50 a slice.

So, both cakes together are 80 servings…is that right?  Seems a little pricey to me but not completely outrageous if the baker has a lot of decor to do with the second cake?  I live in a metro, but not as pricey as some areas of the country.  I don’t think it’s completely outrageous if you live in a high-cost area.  I don’t have any idea of good pricing for the second cake.  The first cake  is a very simple design.

I paid $600 for this, 100 (generous) servings.  Rather simple cake actually, paid $30 per (sugar) flower and $30 for the silver cake stand.  So simple design on the actual cake was more like $480-500ish just for the cake.  It was white with raspberry filling and coconut cake with lemon filling.  Best cake I’ve ever had!

Seems high to pay 400 for a 40 serving cake that is relatively plain! I get it for the grooms cake though, since it’s detailed. We paid $650 for this 120 serving cake (sorry for the blurry guest photo, don’t have pros back yet!)

texaslemon:  I love the main cake and that similar to what I’m looking for but it’s faily plain for then to harge 10.00 a slice IMO…

I would see if you can negotiate them down a little, since you have to use them.  We got married in a very expensive area of northern california (wine country north of San Francisco), so most cakes were $10/pp, but we were able to find a 3 tiered cake for 180 people for $900.

It was 3 flavors, and a similar design to yours, although slightly more intricate.  We had 150 people at our wedding, so technically we paid about $6/pp.

Are the cake serves coffee or dessert sized? It does seem pricey if they are coffee sized ame not used for your dessert.

My cake was from a baker and will cost $400 for 80 people, coffee sized serves As we will have other small desserts to compliment our cake. No grooms cake, it was not required. The cake sizes are 10″ 8″ and 6″ if that gives you an idea.

We paid I think $700 for 130 people in a major metro area with a pretty simple cake. We shopped around a bit, too. I think the quote you got is normal.
