Hey Bee’s, so a few days ago I made a thread about my Fiance and I deciding to cancel the big wedding. Well so far those plans have been going amazingly! Our old plan was to be married lakeside and then have a large reception at a lakeside restaurant with DJ, decor, bridesmaids, groomsmen, 100+ guests, etc. But we decided it just wasn’t us. We have so much drama with our friends and family and we’re such an introverted couple anyway, we just wants our day to be about us and go on an adventure at the same time. So far here is our new plan:
-Elope and get married on a glacier in Alaska (I know, sounds cold. But he proposed in -30 degree weather).
-After the ceremony, we would go on our honeymoon cruise leaving from Anchorage and be gone 7-11 days (still deciding which cruise length we want).
-Have small dinner reception with CLOSE family and friends (under 40 guests)
We had already paid non-refundable $500 deposits to the photographer and venue we initially booked, however I spoke with our event coordinator at the venue and she would be more than happy to have our money go towords payment for a dinner cruise (which they offer that at the venue we chose). They will even have the decorator still decorate the boat for us too (which they don’t normally do). We decided to not lose the deposit on the photographer and just downgrade our package since we wouldn’t need her for as long and that worked out well so long as we kept out June 6th reception date. We just thought it would still be nice to capture some moments with family and friends and have an album made (I am planning to wear my dress for the reception as well).
We’ve also been in contact with a travel agent who is helping us plan things out for our honeymoon and also working with us to plan the details of the elopement as well so all in all, things have been going swimingly! I just had to share because it was great news hearing back from our venue today, they said that they are flexible because they want our day to be happy, not stressfull ๐

Yay! We also canceled our big wedding and we couldn’t be happier. We were going to elope but my daughters really want to be in the wedding. So we are having a little simple ceremony on the military base at 1st after a Sunday service. Short and sweet and happy about all of it.

That sounds fantastic! While I’ve never been to Alaska we live in Canada’s north and I know how breathtaking the scenery is. That will be an incredible story and sounds like a lot of fun. Have a great time!

I don’t know how much you’ve booked yet, but Princess does glacier weddings with cruises. Just thought I’d throw that in there. Congrats! Sounds fun.

Oh my goodness, that sounds lovely! I know people who eloped in Alaska and it was breathtaking! Congratulations; so happy that you’re going with what YOU want rather than what is expected! ๐

amandajane4949: Our travel agent actually recommended that to us! They have entire packages that include photography, cake for 2, champagne, transportation, officiant etc. It’s a really great idea! ๐

Lakeside003: we are doing a cruise ship wedding package as well. It is easy and low-stress to plan. We are having it in port, so we can have guests. The guest list is the hardest part, our max is 50 per the ship wedding package limits. We are going from los angeles to the mexican riviera. Alaska would be amazing!! Congrats on your new plans! when are you thinking of doing it?

amandajane4949: That sounds amazing! We had initially thought maybe to go on the cruise in June, but we would lose our deposit with the photographer if we chose a different date other than our June 6th for the reception that we already had booked. So Now we’re considering mid-Late May instead, which still sounds completely doable. We’re both really looking forward to it!!
