We got married in September and promptly moved to the UK so we didn’t have time for a honeymoon right after the wedding.
Over the new year holiday we finalized all our plans for our honeymoon to Africa.
We leave mid February for a 15 day Tanzanian safari and beach vacation in Zanzibar.
I am so excited. This will be the trip of a lifetime and well worth the 4.5 month wait since the wedding.

That’s awesome! Tell us everything! Do you have a blog or something where you talked about the process? We are almost certain we want to go to Africa, and I’d love to know more about how you decided where to go, what companies you used, what price ranges are reasonable, etc. Thanks! And congrats!

@All In: I don’t have a blog but I’m happy to share whatever details you want. It’s going to end up being a really expensive trip, but that is because we are going with a luxury tour company and we are having our own private safari vehicle the whole time.
@MlleBrielle: Oh we will. Darling Husband got a brand new camera and telephoto lens for the trip.
@Evie19: I will be sure to post “recaps” when I get back.

@LGenz: I will be sure to post pictures. Hopefully they may help convince your Darling Husband that you need to go on safari!
My Father-In-Law and his wife went on safari in South Africa last year and their photos were amazing.

I spent about a month there a few years ago, its amazing and you will love it.
I have ONE piece of advice though – get used to “Africa time” pretty much as soon as you get there- anything you have scheduled (including the flights from mainland to Zanzibar and drivers for tours) will likely be anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours late. It became almost a little funny seeing some tourists totally lose their shit when things ran late – but, thats just how it goes there, so just relax and go with it 🙂
Oh, and no matter what they tell you, the lions don’t come out during the day – if you want to see the kitties, book a sunset or evening safari!! You will see TONS of giraffes and elephants during the day though.

@mandypop: That is funny about “Africa Time”. We have a private safari car and driver for the whole trip so hopefully we won’t have too much “Africa Time” to contend with. We are totally there to relax for sure so we will go with the flow and maybe have another drink while we wait.
Sunset or evening safari sounds awesome. We’ll have to look into that.

That sounds totally awesome!! I am trying to fit a safari into our honeymoon but I don’t know how that will work out with our flights. We’re going to Mauritius so I’m hoping to get a flight that goes through Kenya or Tanzania.
Can’t wait to see those pictures!! There is a blog post on Brooklyn limestone about her & her husband’s trip to Africa for a safari trip, it might have some good info: http://www.brooklynlimestone.com/2010/08/jambo-amboseli.html#.TwMnhtSXQsI
