I am so greatful for the people who have come out of the wood work to support my Fiance and I getting married.
My Godmother gave us an empty gallon water jug so we can save our coins & dollars (we are paying for the wedding ourselves!) – Retail Value = Priceless
My Mother secured a dressmaker friend of ours to come out of retirement to custom-make my gown. She made mine & my sister’s sweet 16 dresses + the wedding gown of a family friend of ours. She said if our friend makes it, she will pay for my gown. So I can go and try dresses at salons and price will not be a factor. – Retail Value = up to $5000 (Which will be nowhere near what my mother will be paying)
My friend who is a certified with the Uniterian Church offered to officiate for us. – Retail Value = $200
The theatre I work for is directly outside from the ceremony site in the park. My Boss offered to give us the theatre as if it were a private party to get ready in and as a stand in if it rains. All he asked was maybe a small donation. Maybe $200. But! Retail Value = $800. $600 Savings
My Future Sister-In-Law offered to shoot our E-pics when they come to visit in the middle of the year. She’ll give all the pics and edit them on photo shop. Retail Value = $200.
Estimated total of savings so far = $6,000.00
And we still got 18 months to go!
Anyone else care to share how people’s generosity has surprised you?
We really weren’t expecting anything. I didn’t even know if my FI’s family would even come! Turns out, not only will they come, They will have BELLS on! This makes me and my Fiance so happy!

Wow that is great! You are very fortuneate!
I haven’t had too much action in this department.
– My mom has offered to pay for the dj [$400, family friend], and some alcohol for the reception [probably around $200].
– And our venue has honored 2012’s rates for our 2014 wedding, since we booked it so early. It’s not a huge saving, probably around $100 or so, but that’s still money saved.
– I bought some menu holders from seller off wedding bee, i wanted 12 and she gave me the rest of them for free! Very generous.
That’s been it so far, but i’ve been savig myself money by buying in bulk & off ebay. And doing tons of research to find the best prices.

Not getting married but your post inspired me to go do something nice for someone!
Also, how are you going to get your money out of the water jug?!?!

We are SO blessed!
My fiances parents paid for our honeymoon and put the deposit down on the ceremony space. Well turns out we wont be using the ceremony space and will not get our deposit back for them but that’s alright it was only $150 deposit and by changing the ceremony location we are saving about $400 and a lot of headache so anyhow..
My friend will be our caterer and only charge for the cost of food. So for great food for 100 people we are only paying $600. She is also letting us use her BEAUTIFUL property for the wedding
My fiances friend owns a wedding rental company and we are getting a lot of charges dropped for that. So for two nice porto potties, 8 large tables and 85 chairs (guessing some from the guest list wont show) we are only paying $385, a savings of about $200. My fiance and the groomsmen are also getting their rental tuxedos from the guy for $65 a piece instead of their regular $120 which is a $220 saving.
Fiances Grandmother is paying for our wedding cake in full. My future in laws are also paying for the grooms cake so total that’s saving us quite a few hundred dollars right there.
My friend from work has a second job at a linen company and is letting us use their linen free of charge which saves us quite a bit there.
Our musician is free since my Fiance is in the band 🙂
Our invitations and Save-The-Date Cards AND programs are free since Fiance uncle works at a printer company.
My mom paid for my dress which saved $1,200 there.
She’s also giving us a check for about $1000 to put toward anything we need for the wedding.
Pro photographer is a friend so all we have to pay is travel expenses which saves us thousands.
Lots of savings 🙂 Family and friends really help!
