I wouldn’t make such a big deal out of it. You got what you wanted for it and your dad got a bit for finding the buyer. Honestly, I’d let it go. I don’t think it is worth causing family drama over $50 you weren’t even expecting.

It’s only fifty dollars. I’m sure your parents have shelled out more then that raising you. I think they are being annoying however making a big deal over your parents making fifty dollars isn’t worth it. Even if they have junk in their yard it would have cost you over fifty dollars to store it somewhere anyways.

Yeah, that’s annoying that they’ve charged the buyer a little extra for their trouble but, like @KatNYC2011 said, you weren’t expecting $350. You were expecting $300, you’re getting $300, and your parents get $50 for storage/finding a buyer with no effort from you. You don’t lose anything, your parents are up $50…everybody should be happy, right?

I wouldn’t expect my parents to store my large items for free, but I would also expect them to be upfront about this. Collecting a “storage fee” that was never agreed upon is really shady. If a company did this, I bet most people would raise hell. No different for family, In My Humble Opinion.

You were selling it for $300 and they got someone to buy it for $350 I think that they have every right to keep that $50… They did find the buyer…

Why does your family have so many junk cars? I’d just start calling the towing companies and telling them someone parked illegally on your land and you want the car removed and impounded. Do that a few times and they won’t leave their crap on your lawn anymore.

With all these junk cars it shounds like there are bigger family issues than $50.

@mvest:  Well you didn’t keep it there, you decided to move it. They should have been up front about the fee, but I really don’t think that $50 is worth starting a family fued over.

I agree with PPs, one other thing – your parents probably aren’t doing it to annoy you. If they feel they need the $50 then I wouldn’t fight with them about it. It’s clearly worth it to them.  And next time, keep the item for sale at your own house, and don’t let other people use your own driveway.

It sucks to be the mature one here. My SO was the mature one in his house. He did all the housework after school, (he had 2 older brothers and 2 older sisters who did nothing) cook dinner, wash dishes, vacuum, dust and wash floors, bathrooms, ALL of it. Then he moved out, the parents promptly got a dishwasher and hired a housecleaner! What an insult! They did pass away soon after and he does hold a grudge someimes when things get bad with his health, he doesn’t get too bothered by it, he is still a cleaning man by trade!

I would let the $50 bucks go! It’s not worth it… They brought you into the world and raised you, just use this as a $50 lesson, to never do this again! LOL
