So how do you pick a dj? Obviously I’ll be looking at all the boards for Chicago DJs, and read reviews on other websites, and price is always a factor, but once I have a list of people to meet with how do you pick? For venues you can go walk around or taste the food, for photographers we oggled page after page of their work and got a sense of what they wanted to capture in our day. But with DJs, unless we actually go to a wedding they’ve worked, then how can we get a sense of their style? And of course, we’ll be giving them a “do play” and “don’t play” list, so they know that we don’t want a night full of Miley Cyrus or Nordic Death Metal (nothing against either if that’s your thing!)
I’m just nervous because we’ve been to weddings with some pretty questionable djs – one time everyone was rocking out to the Cha Cha Slide, and the dj stopped the music to inform all of us that we were doing it wrong, and needed to be corrected. Killed the dancing mood for a solid half hour. Anyway, the point is I know that a good dj can make or break a wedding, but I don’t have a good sense of how to make sure I find one… How did you choose your dj?
