    @AB Bride:  I own a cleaning business – if you don’t go the Merry/Molly Maids route please do ensure your cleaner has liability insurance, WCB coverage (for her/himself is a bonus, but it’s a MUST if they have employees or even family members who help out), is bonded (not bondable, that is different) and has a business license. You’re putting yourself at considerable risk if you don’t.

    Most importantly, ask to see these documents! Lots of them will say they have it but you find out otherwise when they damage your property or worse, hurt themselves then go after you for lost income.

    Expect to pay the equivalent of $25-$40/hr. The $25 and under crowd I am very suspcious of – not that they’re bad people, but it’s near impossible to turn any kind of profit charging less than that when you’re properly licensed and insured. Of course, if you’re in a small city or town you can expect to pay less, but for YYC and YEG expect to pay at least $25/hr. We’re pretty “exclusive” as we are all about quality and use only homemade products with essential oils and Norwex cloths, not about speed or “everyone can afford us, everyone please hire us!” and our rates work out to $40-$50/hr for residential.

    Be prepared also, to have to try out a few people. Some will do a bad job, some will ask you to change your scheduled cleaning day every chance they get, some just wont show up, some will work out well for weeks or months and then one day, they vanish. The cleaning industry is FULL of trunk slammers.

    Yes. we live in a 1300 sq ft townhouse, 3 bedroom and 3 bathrooms (but we only use 2).  She only does cleaning, meaning she does kitchen, bathroom, vaccum and hardwood floor

    My friends pay $20-$25/hr. My co-worker pay $25/hr for her 1000 sq ft apartment where the maid does her laundry too

    @turnanewleaf:  Thanks!

    That’s especially helpful since you probably have a good idea of what the costs are here.

    @priyawouldntwannabeya:  I’ve never actually thought about it monthly. $25/hour is really cheap for my area and the only reason I get it is because my sister, mother, and 2 SIL use the same lady. My quick calculation is $650/month but it’s totally worth it. Time is money and I sure don’t work for $25/hour so I figure I’m savin. Plus, no arguing over stupid BS is priceless.

    Interesting to know! I want to have someone come in a couple times a month and do the deep clean stuff that I hate.

    This is interesting.  I want to hire a housekeeper so much.  I hate cleaning and the fact that it takes away from my fun time.
