You know I always have a story… I found my dress yesterday, woohoo!
I went to a bridal shop here that was supposed to have a fairly good reputation for carrying plus size sample gowns. They are in the process of moving, and thus had a really small selection and I was getting super frustrated by lack of options to try on (see Diva Sized Dress Search and Review).
Anyway! I saw this one dress and wasn’t really impressed with it in the bag, but thought it had a lot of elements I really liked. Ladies, that sample was SO tight I could barely walk or breathe but let me tell you:
I fell in some serious love! I never thought I would want a mermaid-style dress. I never thought I wanted a lace dress. I never thought I wanted a dress without a train that went from Atlanta to at least New Jersey — but I looked down right hot in this dress, lol. With a little alteration to let it out at the knee line to make the silhouette a little less severe, this is it. THE DRESS.
Now here came the conundrum. The store removes labels from the inside of the sample gowns, doesn’t tell you who the designer is, and won’t let you take pictures until you submit your order. No big deal, I was in love right?
But the budget savvy person in me just couldn’t take it at that. They offered me a ‘special deal’ if I purchased the sample dress (which was quite a bit too small). If I chose to order it new in my size, it was 50% more.
I decided to think it over. What I could do with those hundreds of dollars spinning in my mind. And ultimately, what I would order was only the next size up and would still probably need alterations to make it larger. So, I channeled julies1949 (in my mind, lol) and internet stalked until I found the dress!
Why hello there Mori Lee 3111, how are you today? These photos do you NO justice!
I had every intention of buying my dress from this salon – my consultant really was amazing but in my gut I needed to make sure the price was on target. I called three other authorized retailer salons – and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM quoted me roughly the exact same price (for it brand new, and in my true size) that this salon was trying to sell me the sample for!! Oh, hell naw!
So this diva is sayin’ yes to the dress – somewhere else! Will keep you posted, and get a pic of me in it up when I can 🙂
PS) Please PM me if you are an ATL bride and would like to know which shop was up to such shenanigans!
