In the next couple years I am planning on getting this Tacori (pic attached) or having it done custom locally with a plain shank.
I sent a few emails off to local jewelers in my area pretty much saying what I want and I included the picture below…..and I also asked them about setting my 5ct sapphire that I have in a box currently….and here is the first reply.
Tell me if you think this is super high??? Not even including the diamonds for the Tacori inspired ring…and $1200 for a plain claw and plain shank for my sapphire???? I can get an actual Tacori built for me for under $4500
Thank you for contacting us regarding your new mount question. I would have to estimate that the ring would cost around $1400 to start, plus diamonds. There look to be about 8 melee diamonds in the crown setting, and 8 baguettes around the sides. It will also depend on the size and weight (amount of gold used), and if there will be diamonds in the shank. You mentioned that you didn’t like the shank very much.
As for the sapphire, that too will depend much on weight and design but generally the mount would be approximately $1200.

I have no idea if that’s a high estimate, I just wanted to say that both your sapphire and inspiration ring are gorgeous 🙂

We looked at getting a setting for the Maevona Cava with a plain 18kt band and we were quoted $1450 by Maevona (not an authorized retailer) so I think they’re spot on. http://www.maevona.com//bridal/2/cava

Hey, gold is expensive, and the price just keeps going up. And custom designs are always pricy, even if it’s supposed to be similar to an existing design.

Gold is super expensive right now and is expected to go up even higher. I think that sounds pretty reasonable.
Have you considered palladium? It’s a lot less expensive and it doesn’t ever yellow.

It doesn’t sound too off. I’d definitely let them know what you want for now for the shank and let him know the quality of stones you want for the sake of the quote. Stones that small shouldn’t add a huge amount of money to the ring. But getting a tacori replica, which, as you know, is very detailed, and given the amount of gold needed to accomodate a 5ct stone, the quote doesn’t sound too terrible. It’s the cost I would expect to hear…to an extent. Definitely ask what the diamonds will add to it.

Thanks all for your replies…I think it will be too hard for anyone to give me a quote via email and I will have to go in.
I have seen some settings for the sapphire on Ebay for about 400 or less for 14k white gold so that might be another option.
If this it too hard I might just go with Tacori but paying for the name sucks but it might be less to go custom in the end.
I might even go the bezel route till I can figure out what I wanna do. I have always loved them…ummmmm…something to think about…I just hate my prongs so much I want them gone sooner rather then later

That bezel is gorgeous! I have a special place in my heart for bezels 🙂

The sapphire is gorgeous! You are going to have 2 very pretty rings! The quote for the plain band sounds a bit pricey, but the Tacori inspired design does sound right. Tacori itself is so expensive because of the intricate designs (and even more so if you customize one of them, as we did for my ring). The amount of detail+the number of stones in most designs =more expense. At $1400, you would be getting off pretty easily and saving $3k (thus likely getting both your rings for less an the price of just the Tacori setting).

the 1400 didnt include the diamond tho which sucks…It is prob easier to just get the Tacori in the end but that plain solitaire 4 claw semi mount for the sapphire is crazy

The biggest problem I have is that there are no Tacori retail stores near me…the closest one is half way across the country. Maybe next time I go on vacation I will search for some stores in the USA or Caribbean.

custom jewellery can be very expensive especially for intricate detailing.
most of the time an already made semi mount is the least expensive way to go.

I like the Tacori setting a lot more than the bezel but then I’m not a fan of bezel rings.
I would just bit the bullet and get the Tacori – or save up for it. You might not like the custom as much and it doesn’t sound like a bargain…
