I don’t trust VS for measuring. I’m a 34DD and they put me in a 36D. I do go to Intimacy where they do not use the conventional tape measure system – but then the sizing they use is not the standard American sizing, so at Intimacy you can’t exactly take the measurement they give you and go to another store. For good quality bras that actually give support in all the appropriate areas you will have to spend more. I feel your pain about not being able to shop at gapbody and aerie and get all the cute little inexpensive bras. It’s just part of the territory though.

Victoria’s Secret sizing is no good! I have 32DDD, yes 3 Ds, the bane of my existence, and the VS sales girls could never figure them out – I was told later it’s because they only sell up to a certain size so even if you’re larger than that, they won’t say so.

I second (or third) Nordstrom’s!!! Very expensive but worth it!

ETA: By expensive I mean $100 bras. But again, worth it.

@love108:  Definitely do! Just so you know, after years of horrible boob problems I finally went there for the bra under my wedding gown and it’s the most amazing bra I’ve ever had. Sometimes I feel like it makes my boobs too supported lol. But when I was trying on my gown my boobs were actually sitting in. the. wrong. place. I mean WTF was that!? Then I went to Intimacy, got my bra, tried the dress on again and my boobs were in the right place! Hooray!

Note: My dress had full sleeves and neckline because of religious purposes so I was able to get a regular bra. I don’t know what other bridal options they have for strapless, etc.

VS doesn’t size right at all. They measured me at 36C and I seriously have no chest. I wear a 36A, it’s all ribs. I waved at my chest all Vanna White and they shook their tape measure thing at me.

VS and most chain lingerie stores are pure crap. As a PP mentioned, try to find a boutique that specializes in proper bra sizing and carries a better range of sizes. We have a shop that carries bras up to J. I’m a 30FF and VS would try to shove me into a 36 or 38DD just to get me to buy something. :p Idiots.

I used to work for VS, and as far as I know they aren’t (intentionally) trying to trick you with their measurements or anything! Everyone is trained to use a pretty standard measuring method. Now, it’s completely possible that the girl that measured you (ahem… most of their associates) don’t know what they’re doing. Lol!

I personally have never done well with my “measured” size either. I’m always measured at a 38C (sister size 36D)… yeah right! I always end up buying 36C, or 38B if I can find it (in VS stores they usually only carry Body By Victoria in that size, if you’re lucky).

A lot of it really does vary from person to person, regardless of what the measuring tape says. A little bit of a shape difference can go a long way as far as your sizing. Unfortunately most of the girls working at VS types don’t get the more in-depth management level training or “bra certification” that would help them to pinpoint your fit problems!

I recently got refitted and am now a cup size bigger (well obvioiusly not but now I wear the right size).

As for VS sizing.  VS, M&S and Asda (Walmart) and a few others I can’t think of off the top of my head, use the same company to make their bras in China, so the sizing is EXACTLY the same.  Just a thought if you’re looking for a cheaper alternative.  Though as you say: cheaper stores don’t always stock the sizes.

I wear a 30E and get mine from bravissimo – UK store, but they ship to the US and I know lots of US girls use them. They specialise in pretty bras in bigger sizes, so you could check them out?
