Assuming your photographer requested that I would ask them what the hell they meant specifically?

I think of flowing fabrics and bright colors when I hear “whimsical.”

Also, casual.

So something light, comfortable, bright, flowy top. Jeans or a casual skirt on the bottom. A cute pair of boots.

Whimsical just means fun.

Shouldn’t it be your choice what to wear for your engagement shoot? I’m confused.

That seems like an odd request.

A good photographer should want to work in things that are personal to you and your Fiance and your personal style. You should feel comfortable and like yourself on your shoot… not trying to fit into what this photographer feels goes with their portfolio. 😛

@Ellyson:  It should definitely be the client’s choice.  The only thing a photographer should tell you is to wear what you absolutely love.

When i see or hear the word whimsical i imagine, fun, flowy natural colours and pictures captured in a forest/garden environment.

Look up on google images whimsical engagement photos, that will give you an idea of the overall look the photographer invisions and whether or not that is the look you want to achieve or go for.

When I hear whimsical, I think of alice in wonderland.

Whimsical to me is something fairy-tale like, a bit odd AND cute, blowing bubbles etc.

But why is the photog determining what YOU are going to wear?
