We’ve set our date – 4th November 2011! We went to the registry office today to apply for a licence to marry, which involved us answering a few questions about ourselves and each other, and now a notice will be displayed in our local registry office for 21 days to make sure no-one contests it (a legal formality) then, we will be sent our certificates in the post!
I was just wondering, does the USA have similar laws to this?

I’m embarassed to say I was confused for WAY too long about your date (I read it as April 11, 2011 and was all “woo, we’re month twins!”)
I’m not aware of any law like that here, although there might very well be.

Hehe sorry – I forgot to put it the other way round 🙂

Congrats! I don’t think there’s anything like that round these parts. I must say I can already see the movie with that as the dramatic twist. Star-crossed lovers find each other again after he/she notices announcement in local registry office.

In texas…we file for our marriage license like a couple weeks before the wedding but not more than 30 before as the license is only good for 30 days….but once you file there is a 3 day waiting period… 🙂
