Just a quick little post regarding ring BROWSING. Not shopping, browsing. Long story short, SO and I went to the jewelers where I have suggested he goes to when the time is right (this isn’t as demanding as it sounds, this was the summary of a long conversation and I want him to go to this one as it is good value for money and I am really up for a 2nd hand ring. Bigger diamond for less money, I am on board with that!).
So this was on Saturday. We went to the jewelers and looked at some rings. SO knows nothing about rings and admits he doesn’t “understand them” (Ummmm what?! They are pretty, the sparkle, what else is there to understand?!). In his mind (and his mind is very unique) they are too small to do anything with artistically. Again, ummm what, ssssshhhhh now darling and look at the sparklies…..
I told the jeweler that I was up for 2nd hand and preferences were platinum or white gold, round, solitaire with 4 or 6 prongs (he said that here 6 prongs are pretty rare now and considered a bit old fashioned). I said I liked 4 prongs as long as they don’t make the diamond look square if you know what I mean. Now, in my head and in my dreams I want something over 0.5 carats. (I have lovely huge hands so small delicate jewelry looks a bit lost) I am not the kind of girl to demand this out loud but 0.7 to me would be my DREAM.
So out comes this ring. Platinum band, solitaire, 0.7. VS1 and H I think the specs were. 4 prong, but not square looking. Sparkles like a biatch! £1750. Best price after haggling £1600. For new, here this would cost over £3000 which is way too much for us and our budget. They said we could put down a deposit and then repay as and when we can. It is a wedding band fit which I explained to SO is really important to me as a gap between rings would send me a bit OCD crazy. Not saying a gap is bad but just would drive me a crazy. Because I am weird. This ring, of course was the wedding band fit. I don’t think the jeweler was saying this to get a sale as he knew we were looking, but he said, that what I wanted, to get all that 2nd hand would be very difficult. Ugh.
So…. Here I am totally in love with this ring.
But no….. the trip was to LOOK and to get IDEAS. Not to PICK out a ring. I knew this would happen, I am in love. I can’t stop thinking about this beauty of a ring.
Damn it, I knew this would happen, I am so freaking predicable it hurts.
The specs and details are written down for SO for when the time comes and are currently pinned on the pin board in the kitchen. Now… you know I am going to be checking it is still there every day right!? Lol.
So… silly, predicatable me, in love with a ring that I can’t have and won’t end up with. Who else has been there done that? Did you SO surprise you with something better than what you saw? Were you pleased? Did you regret looking together?
