My silly SO mistakenly posted on a mutual friends wall (who is a photographer) about proposing at the end of this month
… which was a huge shock to me- I really thought he was planning to do it after the holidays.
After he knew that I knew, he gave me a little time range- Oct 30th- Nov 5th so that it will still be kind of a surprise (even though I am sure the day of I will be able to tell).
SO OF COURSE… now that I know im going to be PHOTOGRAPHED and Im aware of the week-
I want to
: go buy a few new outfits!
: get new shoes
: get my nails done!
(i normally do them myself but I can’t do a french manicure to save my life)
: dye my roots!
Is this crazy? Anyone else know ahead and plan?

Haha, I find most women knew in advance or at least suspected before the question was asked.

@SparkleBee11: I knew, but didn’t know when……..basically you’ll have to do yourself up and keep your nails up at every point for a week? sounds harmless…but I would just try to block it out of your mind and let him have fun surprising you! That’s always the best.

I saw a proposal picture where the guy proposed to her after a few days of her being sick. Her nose was snotty, her hair was EVERYWHERE and she was wearing sweats and UGGS lol. It was the CUTEST photo I’ve ever seen in my life and I’ve seen a LOT of baby animal photos!
Aside from the nails I likely wouldn’t do anything different ๐

Don’t do it!!! Remember, it was supposed to be a surprised, so you wouldn’t have done any of that.
I admit, I did my nails that afternoon, because I thought it might be coming. But I painted them myself since I knew people would be looking at my finger. Nobody will be looking at your outfits.

@mrslittlefish: Agreed!
I already told SO that if he proposes and my nails don’t look pretty I’m not sending out any pictures until after they are done haha. If there is a photographer on the scene though, I’d have my nails done the whole week!
Other than that, don’t do anything special. Let him surprise you.

If I had known in advance, I’d definitly have done that and more! As it was, I got a manicure the very next day, so they looked pretty while I was showing off my ring!

MY Darling Husband accidentally pocket dialed me from his cell phone (how that’s possible on an iphone, I don’t know!) while he was picking up my engagement ring from the jewelers. I overheard the conversation and he told her he was relieved that he didn’t have to hold onto it for too long because he was going to propose the following weekend! This all happened while I was at work and I hung up and my heart was beating out of my chest. I didn’t know what to do! In the end, I was actually really glad that I knew when it was coming because the day was so emotional anyway that I was glad to have time to prepare ๐ Also, it’s a funny story that fits “us” really perfectly (even though Darling Husband asks me not to tell too many people about it!). FYI…I also went out and bough a new dress and got my nails done ๐

@Bunny82: Awww that does sound cute. Sort of a no matter what your going through or what you look like I’ll always love you!!
I didn’t even realize I’d be getting an on one knee proposal we had talked about getting married and decided to do so. I guess I should have seen a ring proposal coming but I didn’t. I think even though you know when about its going to happen you’ll still be surprised!
I’d do the nails for sure since you know ahead of time. In fact I have been putting off doing mine for a while due to potential job interviews but screw it. I think I’ll do them today so I can post a ring pic with nail polish!!
ETA: I didn’t really show off my ring too much. People came to my cube to look, after someone else noticed it and that was really the gist of it. I showed it to friends and family through email and facebook (everyone lives 2000 miles away!) I have trip back home planned soon and I think I will totally paint my nails before that because people will probably want to see the thing in person. That didn’t even occur to me before now!

Im totally doing my nails-
@ bunny82- that is so cute. My SO is supposed to have knee surgery that week… so he may be on crutches— should be an interesting proposal lol
@ crosswordpuzzle- too funny! something my SO would totally do! Im glad I have a time frame! It is emotional. I think the anticipation adds to my excitement! I am totally buying a new dress. I want these pictures to be perfect and I am SOOOOO glad my SO knew I would want pictures of that moment!

I knew it was coming at some point in the near future, so I had taken to doing my hair and makeup before all specialish events. I didn’t do a whole lot out of the ordinary, but I definitely made an effort. Darling Husband apparently was convinced that I knew when I took so long to do my hair the day of, but it really was just what I was doing for all days it could have happened.

My SO has promised to give me a one-month heads up before proposing — partly because he knows I hate surprises, and partly because I keep changing my mind about the ring and need to give him a “final answer,” haha. I’m definitely going to keep my nails looking amazing as soon as I get the green light!

Yay on the nails, but I’d probably stop there! People are going to want to see pictures of the ring, not your clothes or hair!
Ahh!! How exciting for you!!

@SparkleBee11: I’d make an effort with the manicure but everything else (hair, new outfits) I wouldn’t worry about. I’m thinking my SO will propose in 2 weeks while we’re away on my birthday getaway so I’m making sure my nails are painted but nothing else out of the ordinary. Otherwise there’s too much to worry about and I just want to enjoy the moment when it happens… not worry about what I’m wearing or how my hair is styled.
