January 28th I was 11weeks 6 days pregant. My husband and I went in for an ultrasound. What we found out was devastating, the baby stopped growing around 8 weeks, no heartbeat. Doctor sent us home with meds to insert to bring on miscarriage. Started bleeding next day and continued to bleed for 2 weeks. Passed tissue and clots with some cramping. Went into Dr office on Feb 18th for follow-up visit where she checked to make sure my cervix was closed. In the meantime I was going for weekliy bloodwork to monitor my HcG levels.
To make a long story short, was told on April 22nd, HcG was finally down to 10, no more blood work needed, 3 MONTHS later! Started what I thought was AF on April24th, but continued to bleed for 2 weeks. On May 2nd was bent over in terrible pain, turns out I passed a massive size tissue, much larger than a softball. What was this? The placenta? I thought everthing was done, it has been over 3 months since ultrasound. Called Dr that orning, took her 6 hours to call back and her only response was if it makes me feel better, go to get HcG level checked. Ugh, I was in total shock. The next morning I was at work once again and went into the bathroom room. This time I passed the sac, umbilical cord and all. Over 3 months to complete miscarriage, is it really complete? Is this normal?
I was wondering if anyone else miscarried naturally, did there dr do a follow up to see if nothing was left behind? I went to a specialist yesterday who did an ultrasound and did not like that my walls were too thick. No having a procedure where they go into the uterus with a telescopic camera to see whats going on.
Just wondering if my doctor was negligent. I just want this to be over! We wanted to try again as soon as possible!

I am so sorry this happened to you. after my missed miscarriage my OB would only let me wait. 5 more days to see if it would pass naturally. If not, she insisted on a d and c to get everything out and clean/clear.

Oh my goodness I’m so sorry you went through that. My sister had a MC much earlier than 11 weeks – around 4 weeks and yes her doctor absolutely made sure there was nothing left and didn’t need a D&C.

I have never heard of a doctor letting a miscarriage go on this long!

It has been over 3 months of pure hell. I will never go back to that doctor, just worried that there is no permanent damamge. I’m beginning to doubt whether I want to even try again.

@jrtink: I would make an appt with another OB (and do some research to find a good one) and have an exam to make sure everything is OK. Be sure to tell the new OB the entire story so they know what and why they are giving you an exam.

I am so sorry you went through that! 🙁 Definitely find a new OB, and like ThreeMeers said, go in just to make sure everything is okay and that there isn’t lasting damage. I hope there is nothing lasting, I know that usually if things dont pass with meds they will do a D&C, but I guess because you passed some clots they thought it was all out? I’m not sure what is the usual way of checking but you would think they could at least do an ultrasound or something to make sure it is all out.

I am SO sorry you have to deal with this utterly horrible care. For my m/c, I was given two weeks MAX to wait to see if I m/c naturally. When that didn’t happen, I had two options: medicine (misoprostol) or d & e (dilation and evacuation via a small vac type thing). I chose medicine. I waw given another two weeks after that to let my body do what it had to do, then I was told to come in for a scan to be SURE all had cleared out. If it didn’t at that time, I would need a d & e after all.
One of the major signs of remaining tissue is a constant bleed, and they want that tissue OUT because it can get infected and keep your cycle from regulating, since your body I think needs to be at a 7 (It’s been awhile, so I might be wrong) in order to ovulate. The care (or lack thereof) you received was appalling. Simply appalling. Find a new OB, get a scan done and see if you will need a d & e. They may prescribe you some antibiotics, in case you got an infection.

I had an ultrasound done yesterday at a new Doctor. He was not happy with what he saw so I am going in for a hysteroscopy tomorrow. I really hope there is not something permanently wrong.

@jrtink: I am so sorry! How awful! It does sound negligent. I am terrified of miscarriage so I can only imagine the pain and fear you are going through. I’m glad you’re getting the care you need to let your body fully recover.
