Soo… we got engaged in October, but we are not getting married until next June… So when is an appropriate time for engagement party? i feel like if we have it soon it will be so far off from the wedding it will seem too distant. Also… when is everyone having thier bridal showers and bachlorette parties??? I have a lot of people flying in the week before, is is appropriate to have both the week before the big day????? Thanks bees!!!

Congrats on your engagement! I think you should probably have your engagement party sooner rather than later. Even though your wedding is a long way off, if you wait to have it when there are other parties going on for your wedding (i.e., showers) it might seem like overkill (the same guests might be invited to multiples parties close together).
I’m getting married next month, and had my first shower in March and another one 2 weeks ago. I think they are typically held 1 to 3 months before the wedding. I wouldn’t wait until the week before the wedding to have showers and a bachelorette. Best wishes 🙂

I think the time for an engagement party has passed if you’ve been engaged since October and no one ever offered to throw one – they’re really not commonly done in my area. I’d just wait for your shower (1-3 months before the wedding) and bachelorette (week or two before the wedding). But remember, you get these events if others offer to host them for you – it’s bad etiquette to throw it for yourself or ask someone to throw it, because that can come off as very gift-grabby.

We had our engagement party later b/c we wanted my sister to be able to be here for it. I kind of felt like by the time we had it, being engaged was old news, so I would suggest having it sooner. Don’t get me wrong, it was still fun to celebrate with everyone, but I think it would have made more sense to have it sooner.
We also had my bachelorette party pretty early b/c it’s when my sister could do it. I didn’t mind as much for that b/c I liked having my parties spread out, I always had something close to look forward to!
