- Wedding: January 2012
I lived in rural Japan for two years. While there, I was lucky enough to be befriended by F, the mother of two of my preschool students. F and I became very close while I was over there, and I love her two little girls like they were my own nieces. F and her family were the closest thing I had to my own family over there, and they were the only reason I kept my sanity at times.
So, of course, when I got engaged, I asked F to be a bridesmaid and her two little girls to be the flower girls. I knew that it was unlikely they would be able to make it, since flying four people across the Pacific isn’t exactly cheap, but I knew I needed to try.
I was so surprised when she told me she thought she would be able to do it. She said it wasn’t certain, but she thought they would be able to make it work.
As time went on, she seemed more and more certain. I ordered her bridesmaid dress and looked up hotels for her. She sent me her girls’ measurements so I could order their flower girl dresses. She told me she had bought shoes for all three of them and ordered new passports.
Months ago, I found out that Japan Airlines (JAL) was having a fare sale from Osaka to Dallas/Ft. Worth. She could buy all the plane tickets for approximately $800 dollars US each. I emailed her to let her know that the sale ran through November 20th.
I haven’t been able to chat with her recently because of the time difference and our crazy schedules, but she’s responded to the bridesmaid thread I’m doing with her and my other girls about hair and makeup, and she said how excited she was.
Well, she’s online now, and so I asked her if she’s bought her plane tickets yet. She says she hasn’t because her husband keeps telling her to wait.
…I just looked at prices online again. It now looks like flights are running around $1350. That’s a LOT more money.
I don’t know now if she’s going to make it. I want to see her so badly. I want to cry now. 🙁
