towards the wedding. It is very generous! However, looking at our budget and timelines, I don’t quite know how to ask for it. We’ll need to make a deposit on the venue in August and if we go with this particular venue, the 2nd deposit will be due in January. We can afford deposit #1 ourselves, but the 2nd deposit will be a stretch.
Too soon to ask my parents for their contribution? Or part of it? I guess I should just talk to them about it. I want to give them a heads up, but I don’t want to be pushy and/or jumping the gun.

I don’t think its too soon. If they have already told you what they are contributing then I think they know that payments are done during the course of the engagement. And I doubt that you parents would expect you to pay for everything up front and then get reimbursed from them. Just talk to them.

I think it makes way more sense for them to give you the money now. We opened a savings account really early and we’ve earned a couple hundred in interest to date.

OK, thanks! Just want to make sure I’m not riding the crazy, too-excited bride train! =)
I’ll see them later this month so I’ll discuss with them then.

Why don’t you just ask them what they feel like a reasonable timeline for their budget is? Communication is key – guessing won’t do you any good! Maybe you’ll get lucky, and they already have it saved and can give you a lump sum now. You could put it in a high interest account and withdraw as needed – and make the money work even harder with the interest income.
