I’m sorry for your poor dog! I’ve never boarded my cat buti can’t imagine how hard it must be, especially if the place is that careless, that’s awful. He will be very glad to see you I’m sure and you can comfort him and make it all better.

I won’t go into details but I have a few friends that have horror stories from boarding their dogs. I will never do it…no way, no how.

I am really sorry to hear about your pup. I hope he heals quickly. Did they offer any explanation as to how a door randomly fell (really???) on your dog? Sounds like he wasn’t properly supervised at some point.

Aw, I’m sorry! I hope Winston feels better soon and the surgery goes well.

I understand how you feel. The same sort of thing happened to my late dog. We boarded him for a weekend, and they were going to groom him while he was there. When we picked him up, he had this gash on his leg!! They said he got into a fight with another dog, which SO wasn’t true. We never took him back there, as we felt we couldn’t trust them. And this was a kennel/groomer attached to a Vet’s office!

We all felt really guilty for not keeping him safe. Especially afterwards when he was afraid of the (different) groomers.

@accorn:  Do you have any local pet sitters? Perhaps someone that your vet can recommend? Sometimes even staff at the vet offer pet sitting service. That is what we use…one of the receptionists at our vet offers pet walking and sitting services. Just a thought the next time around.

Regardless of what happened they are responsible. I would tally up the vet bills and have a serious discussion with them regarding the costs. I sure as heck hope they didn’t expect you to pay for the boarding costs!

@accorn:  I’m so sorry for your dog and for you. I’m sure you feel terrible.  I hope that the place where you boarded your dog is going to pay for his medical care and surgery.

Oh my gosh I’m so sorry that you had this terrible experience.

We only had to board our dog once and she had a wonderful time. Hopefully if it comes to this again you can go somewhere that isn’t so careless with the animal’s safety.

Boarding a furbaby is so hard.  I used to drive one of my dogs across 2 states to stay with a friend rather than board him.  It took me a long time to find a place that I trust.  I’m sorry that this happened to your pup but I’m sure he’ll be fine.  He won’t hold it against you.  🙂

That’s totally irresponsible of them!  There’s a boarding facility close to the vet’s office where I work, and they bring the dogs to the vet if they get hurt or injured while boarding.  They should all do that!

He was in their care when he was injured, so they need to cover the entire vet bill for you.

My friend just boarded her dog and came back to find that they had purposely removed her dogs K-9’s because they thought she asked them to do it.  She’s suing them.

I’m so sorry your pup is going through this!  I would never ever board my dog after a bad experience as well.

@KateByDesign:  What kind of idiot does surgery on a pet without getting the owner’s signature first?

I’m so sorry. We pretty much always drive when we have to travel even though the place we use to board our dog is amazing. I don’t like to worry if she is okay while we are gone. I hope your puppy feels better soon.
