Throwing petals isn’t a “Catholic” thing, it’s a church thing. That specific building in which you are getting married has an insurance policy that prevents people from walking on unsecured surfaces. That has nothing to do with Catholicism and there are many Lutheran, Presbyterian, Baptist, Methodist, Episcopal, and secular reception halls with the same restrictions.

@totheislnds: Thank you for that insight! I had a hard time with the “rules” too, especially with music, at first. When I began to understand why liturgical music is traditional and not modern, though, I actually got really into it and opted to have beautiful old hymns for my wedding.
Catholic brides really are different from a lot of other brides. For them, it really is their day. But for us, it isn’t. Our matrimony is a Mass for the whole church and community, and we have to remember that. It’s part of choosing to be Catholic.
