Hang in there, girl. I know the feeling. We are college students doing a wedding for $5k. It is rough. It is stressful. It will probably involve a few loans.  But that’s life.  Everything will be okay. πŸ™‚

It is terrible you feel that way. If I was feeling like that I would postpone the wedding a little longer. It would be worth doing that just to take off the financial strain..

Are you in a rush to get married? [for living situation or health insurance, or w/e the case may be?].

While me & my fi have the funds to get married by ’13, we wanted to have enough time, god forbid something go wrong!

Can you push it back to make it a little less time pressing?

Do you have a budget yet? That’s probably the first step to feel a little more in control. Second, think through all the expenses – are they necessary? I mean, in the end of the day – what really matters is that you get married! In my case, we realised that getting a good wedding photographer would be silly expensive (wedding=out in nowhere). So we simply decided to get my Fiance a nice camera instead, paying $1000 for a new Canon is still way less than hiring someone to travel to our site and we can use it for years to come.

Cut the guest list, look into having the wedding in someone’s home (back garden), make the invitations and get a dress from an online store. There are many ways to have a wonderful party, on a small budget. Personally, I can’t justify spending tons of money on just one day and truth is, it’s the people that make the party. Not how fancy it is. I went to a $90.000 wedding this summer and while it was pretty, it was not that great a party to be honest. People were a little too stiff in all the grandness of the place. I’m sure you two can have a wonderful wedding without completely breaking the bank.

@MissesAwesome:  i can relate! Trying to do the wedding and a house on our own with no help is very stressful!!! I’ve just cried for the last 2 days from being so stressed out, and am feeling emotionally drained. This is not how one of the happiest moments of your life should be like!

I’m just trying not to lose focus of the love that we have for one another, and the REAL reason why we are doing this. Hope it gets better for all of us!!!

@MissesAwesome:  What happens if one of you looses a job, or crashes the car or has to go to the ER for a broken leg – please consider what that would be like if you have no savings!  I have read too many sad stories on here of people having no money because they spent it all on the wedding.  You don’t HAVE to use all your savings, you are choosing to.
