I know I’m a little late posting lol but I’ve been on cloud 9 these past nearly 2 weeks…
He proposed on Christmas morning!
Here’s what happened…
Not my brightest moment. I’d been so stressed and upset thinking he wasn’t going to do it on Christmas, that I woke up crying I had been SO good at not bringing it up for over a month that I just couldn’t do it anymore, I told him I felt like he wasn’t going to propose ever and that he just bought the ring to shut me up, but he was going to wait and wait and sit on it, and I just couldn’t handle it.
Poor thing, my Fiance (!!!) just layed there and held me and rubbed my hair. Lest did I know that when he wrapped up my peacoat that he was getting me for Christmas (a couple weeks prior we went shopping and bought each other coats for our gifts to each other), he hid the ring in the pocket!
Sooo, Christmas Eve night: We went to my aunt and uncle’s house for dinner (spent the evening with my Dad’s side of the family-a tradition since I can remember). Had a great night, I was still upset at myself for my breakdown that morning, so I just focused on playing with my nephew and niece to distract myself. It was actually a pretty good night.
Christmas morning: We woke up at my grandma’s where we stayed the night, got ready and headed over to my parent’s house.
We had brunch, then moved into the living room to open presents. It’s a tradition that the present opening starts with the youngest family members, then moves up to the eldest. My niece and nephew went first, then my cousin, then brother and SIL, then my turn.
I opened the present that I knew my peacoat was in, my Fiance said ‘Why don’t you put it on so your mom, aunt and Nana can see?’ I put it on and walked over to them on the other side of the room.
He then told me, ‘I think there’s something in your pocket!’. I reach in my left pocket, and there was the box! I start overheating, and getting flustered as I pull the box out. I look over to my left, and he was next to me down on one knee. He asked me ‘Did you get everything you wanted for Christmas?!’ and asked me to marry him in front of my Nana, Mom, Dad, Aunt, Uncle, 2 Cousins, Bro, SIL, and Nephew and Niece.
I couldn’t be happier! We haven’t set a date yet, but have been throwing around ideas on what we want, and have a few venues in mind that we’d like to tour.
To all the waiting bees out there. I GET IT. I KNOW how hard it is to NOT know when/where/IF it’s going to happen. But know this-you MUST be strong. If your SO truly loves you, he WILL be able to handle you at your best AND worst (and trust me, there’s nothing worse than a complete breakdown, ugly cry!) Do NOT settle for less!!! There is NO reason to wait an inordinate amount of time. My SO knew that I was not doing good with the wait, and months ago (well before he bought the ring) that I wouldn’t tolerate years of dating with it going nowhere. My timeline was 3 years, and he did it in 2.5. So there IS hope! Find someone who is willing to be on a similar path and go with it!
Cheers to a Happy New Year everyone! Make 2014 count!!!
