Please help! I know nothing about my ring but I’m really upset because after looking at it today, I think I ruined it!
Look how scratched up it is! Is this white gold? Is it supposed to scratch easily like this?
It’s not shiny now either!! It’s just a darker silver color (and rose gold)… But it’s not shiny now 🙁
Anything I can do?

Maybe get it cleaned and dipped in white gold if it is white gold
I think that’s what they do when the jeweler dips it!
I’ve had that done when I get my ring inspected 🙂

Did you do something specific to it or is it just wear and tear? How long have you had it?

Take it to your jeweler.
Your nails are so long! How do you type??? lol.

@alotlikelove: What did you do to it to think you ruined it? If it is white gold it might just need to be replated. I’m not sure how long you have had it or not. My mom’s white gold ring doesn’t look shiny anymore for some reason too.

Get it redipped at a jewellers, I’ve had my white gold ring for 10 months and it definitely has some scratches and has lost its shine but it’s easily rectified. Plus I think it’s kind of nice that it looks worn and loved.

How long have you had it?? I would be wondering if it is really WG too. WG can turn a yellow color but I have never seen it turn a rose color…I had some WG plated earrings do that though. (silver under the white gold)

It probably needs redipped. White gold will need that sometimes.

@JessMorgan777: I’ve only had it about 2 months now. Actually, it has rose gold (the heart detail on both sides. So it didn’t turn a rose color. But does white gold scratch easily? I guess I’ll go a jewelry store and get it checked. Thanks!
@Spade504: I don’t know how it got this bad… so I don’t really know how I ruined it. I just do normal everyday things…
@nicci218: Thanks! Do you happen to know how much it would cost?
@MrsCarnival: I’ve only had it about 2 months… I think it’s just wear and tear because I definitely didn’t do anything specific for it to become like this 🙁 But is this normal?
@peachacid: I will take it to the jeweler, thanks! And haha, I type with my nails some.. Lol

Have you picked up a polishing cloth? It looks tarnished to me.

I also have a wg gold ring. When I first got my ring jees it sparkled. But because I wear it everyday all day it “tarnished” to be honest at times looked fake, however our jeweller gave FI a lifetime ring warranty so every year I get the ring dipped. Just got it back for our wedding in 3 weeks and once again looks amazing. The jeweller did say that WG will need to be “dipped” every year if I continue to wear it daily. Small price to wear a ring I ADORE. Your ring will be brand new again in no time. (by re-dipping gets that brand new look and takes away the scratches)

Yeah I think taking it to a jeweler is your best option, they can tell you more…and really eaither way they can redip it. In my area redipping is $40-60

Wow I can’t believe it’s that bad after only 2 months! I would definitely take it to the jeweler

I don’t think it’s ruined! All jewelry loses it shine if it’s worn all the time, between body oils, products…etc. It’s normal! I can’t tell if it’s just lost it’s shine though or if its tarnished? If it’s tarnished, it may not be pure gold. Can you find out from your FI what metal/alloys it is? Also, WG yellows and changes depending on your body chemistry. My rings yellow very fast on me, so I don’t wear them when cleaning or applying products..etc. It varies from person to person. If you’re worried, a quick trip to the jeweler will sort it out.

I never take mine off, so the bottom of the band gets scratched and dulled pretty good. I just have it buffed and redipped every 6 months, it costs $35.00 where I am and I drop it off in the morning and pick itup that night. All gold scratches and dulls, it just isnt as noticable with yellow but its there.
